The fall of the Castle of Lions

After helping the Arusians, Allura had decided to invite them into the castle to show appreciation or something. Right now the Arusian king was presenting a play on Voltrons defeat of the robeast. I didn't care that much and hung back closer to the open door. I kept my gaze towards the open door and nearly jumped when I felt someone's hand on my shoulder.
Turning around quickly I sighed when it was just Shiro.
"I'm so sorry. Didn't mean to scare you." Shiro whispered as I nodded turning back to the open door.
"It's fine I wasn't paying attention" I murmured as I felt Shiro's hand wrap around my waist.
I leaned into his embrace and both of us stood there silently holding each other close.
"Allura does know that the open door isn't safe right?" I asked and Shiro gave a hum of agreement.
"I told her, she insists the arusians are harmless." Shiro spoke in a light whisper.
"We both know it's not the arusians I'm scared of." I whispered back and Shiro gave another hum of agreement as his hands tightened around my waist and I pulled myself closer to the crook of his neck. We pulled apart as Coran walked up to us.
"Not feeling well? Try some Nunvill. Settles the stomach and brightens your smile." Coran asked with a smile stepping between the both of us.
"I'm not sure we should be letting everyone wander in and out of the castle like this."
"It doesn't seem safe" I added on to both mine and Shiro's concern.
"Oh these arusians won't hurt anything-" he started eyeing a couple arusians as they hung onto a hover plate
"-much. Besides, it's only fair to let them see the inside of a castle that's been sitting on their planet for so long." Coran smiled as I frowned.
"But who knows when Zarkon will attack again? I'm going to do a perimeter check, just in case." Shiro said turning to leave. I moved to follow but was stopped by Coran reaching out and grabbing my arm.
"Number four mind if I ask something?" He started
"Kinda but go ahead" I whispered
"Do you know an altean named Adelaide by any chance?" He asked and I quirked an eyebrow
"No" I responded and he glared at me
"She's not related to you. Not an aunt or a mother perhaps?" I shook my head and he backed up
"Well alright" he mumbled walking off and I spun on my heel walking over to Shiro.
"What was that about?" Shiro asked with a smile but quickly turned into a frown at my unresponsive look to the ground.
"You can tell me Iris. I want you to feel okay here, with us. I won't force you to say anything of course, but just know that I'm here if you ever need someone to talk too." Shiro spoke resting a hand on my shoulder. I looked up and smiled resting my hand on top of his pulling it off of my shoulder.
"Something about my mother being an altean supposedly." I smiled as Shiro entwined our hands together and pulled me closer to his chest and lightly spun me around. I giggled as he placed a hand on my waist and tried to do the waltz with me.
He had no clue what he was doing but I didn't care I loved in none the less. Our brief moment was ruined when Pidge came walking over.
"Iris? Shiro? I need to talk to you." Pidge spoke to both of us and I nodded allowing her to drag both me and Shiro inside.

"Pidge, no...!" Shiro started as the lot of us had been pulled together as Pidge was going to say goodbye.
"The download from the galra ship was enough to at least get me in the right direction to start my search. I have a pod all ready to go." Pidge spoke turning away from us. Keith did not take this well.
"You can't leave!" He exclaimed.
"You can't tell me what to do!" Pidge fired back.
"If you leave, we can't form Voltron. And that means we can't defend the universe against Zarkon. You're not the only one with a family. All of these arusians have families. Everyone in the universe had families." Keith started getting more enraged and got close to Pidge in a rather aggressive manner.
"YOU'RE PUTTING THE LIVES OF TWO PEOPLE OVER THE LIVES OF EVERYONE ELSE IN THE ENTIRE GALAXY-" Keith yelled as both me and Shiro grabbed onto his arms pulling him back
"-Keith! That's not how a team works. People have to want to be a part of it. They can't be forced" Shiro spoke going off at Keith as I turned to the young girl in front of us.
"Listen Pidge I know how important it is to you to find your family and I also realize that you were forced into this. If you want to leave, we won't try to stop you. But, please, just think about what your doing alright?" I asked my tone dropping significantly so it was light and gentle.
Pidge stood still for a moment before muttering an I'm sorry under her breath and leaving with Rover.

A loud blast sounded throughout the castle and I was the first to start sprinting towards the bridge. I coughed a bit as the smoke still billowed out from the room and the everyone except Coran and Lance joined me.
"What happened?!" Shiro asked Coran as Hunk helped him to his feet.
"Ugh... I'm not sure." Coran groaned as the smoke cleared.
"The crystal!" Allura exclaimed as I looked around and made out the unconscious figure.
"Lance!" Allura exclaimed as me and Shiro ran over to the Cuban males side.
"Lance...? Lance!" Shiro called as he held the younger male in his arms as pidge called something about an infirmary.
"Without the crystal, the castle has no power." Allura exclaimed as I frowned looking back to the young male.
"He doesn't look good." Shiro mumbled as I heard a meek voice from the door.
"Lion warriors, our village is under attack! We need help!" The arusian king exclaimed.
"Let's get to the lions."
"You can't. They're sealed in their hangars. There's no way to get them out. We're defenceless." Allura countered against Keith.
"We'll help you. We just-" Keith was cut off by Lance groaning in pain.
We devised a plan quickly from there, Hunk and Coran would go get a replacement crystal and pidge was showing them to her pod. Allura and Keith would go to the arusians village and help defend them, and me and Shiro would stand watch over the castle and protect Lance.
Everyone left and I stood up assisting Shiro as he picked lance up in his arms and set him over his shoulder. We walked towards the castles entrance as I felt my heart beat pick up, I just have this feeling that something bad would happen.
"Hang on, buddy. Help is on the way." Shiro spoke to Lance's unconscious form as I looked up to the approaching army of galra soldiers.
"Sendak!" Shiro exclaimed in anger as he laid down Lance. I grabbed his hand and pulled him back to keep him from charging at Sendak.
"Stand aside." Sendak smirked and I gripped Shiro's hand in mine.
"No! You're not getting in." Shiro yelled as his prosthetic arm activated and I dropped my hand forming my bayard as a sword, ready to fight.
Shiro charged as Sendak as a smaller figure charged at me. I attacked managing to throw them back taking out a couple droids. The figure charged at me again and I was quick to dodge and strike again.
The figure then pinned me against the wall and I managed to make out her human figure, and BLONDE HAIR?!
"Janice?" I spoke in more of a light whisper as the figure quickly bashed me over the head and I was out managing to catch a couple yells from Shiro
"DONT TOUCH HER!"
