Narrator's Pov:
5 years later...
Liu Yang and her son, Chen Jun, walked through a busy market in Min Shan. The shiny exterior of the sheaths on their persons shining in the hot afternoon sun.
Despite legally being her adopted son, Ah-chen continues to call her Yang-jie. Liu Yang is not offended by this, knowing that no one can really replace his parents, not even her.
Five years have passed and it shows. Ah-chen has grown two heads taller and nearly reached Liu Yang's shoulder. Most of the baby fat on his face had gone away, making him look more mature despite only being 13.
Unless you count baby fat as Liu Yang squishing his cheeks together and calling them chubby.
While they were in Minshan, they stayed at a small inn. Neither of them had been there before, so it was a fascinating experience for them.
Liu Yang had wanted to visit the main sect there a few years ago, but she was always barded from the place and the locals would tell her to: "Steer clear of that good-for-nothing sect" and "Their sect leader is a joke, and a coward. You best not pay his sect a visit."
It wasn't until Liu Yang met Wei WuXian did he tell her why the Su Sect of Minshan had such a reputation.
On the third day of their time in Minshan, they set to leave. Liu Yang and Ah-chen happened to pass by the main entrance of Su Sect. Chen Jun whispers a joke to her: "Yang-jie, we should go take a look at the Joke Sect of Minshan."
We all know that the right and responsible thing a parent should do is to reprimand their child for speaking bad about a cultivation clan, or about anyone in general.
But this was the Su Sect of Minshan.
And they were clearly the exception to this.
The two snigger to themselves as they passed by two guards dressed in the Su Sect uniform. They try and fail to cover their mouths to stop themselves from laughing too loudly. The guards glare at them as they leave, even if they didn't know the reason for their laughter.

The leaves were orange and red, and had all but fallen from every tree in Meishan. Liu Yang and Chen Jun wondered down the path outside Jù Hūa Village. Having spent nearly half a day of buying groceries and random trinkets, and greeting old and familiar faces; they didn't have to make any more detours and headed straight towards their hut.The Chen Family hut had been demolished five years ago. Liu Yang and Ah-chen re-built it elsewhere, much closer to the village. After how those bandits surrounded the lone house, the two decided that with more people, less likely someone would dare to rob their house (or do worse) again.
The two of them would stay in the new hut for a few weeks up to a month whenever they returned to Meishan. They worked together to clean the house, Ah-chen would sweep the floor while Liu Yang dusted shelves and made the beds.
After that, they prepared dinner that night and went to sleep after their meal was over.

Liu Yang hugged her blankets tighter, groaning as sunlight filtered into the room. There came shuffling from outside then loud footfalls.Well, there goes trying to sleep again.
She opens her eyes to see her adopted son run into her room and calling her name, "Yang-jie! Yang-jie! Are you ready to leave?" Ah-chen smiles widely, hopping on his feet eagerly. On his arm, there is a wood-woven basket. He was already dressed in his second and third layer of robes, and his hair pulled back.
