Liu Yang's Pov:

By the time Liu Yang had caught up with the Cultivators, they were already within the Gāo Mansion. The five of them positioned themselves at the corners of the large courtyard.

Liu Yang climbed onto the roof, careful not to slip. She perched herself on the roof and surveyed the premises. The Cultivators had their swords out and ready, except Wei WuXian who carried no sword but a black flute.

The night was calm and silent, the woman's ghost had yet to be active. There was no eerie howling, or wind singing lullabies.

But given by how high the moon sat in the dark skies. The peace would be broken soon.

And soon it did.

A skinny cultivator cussed loudly and swung his sword at the ghost that threw herself at him.

The ghost let out a wail then threw her arms out, sending an invisible wave of energy that sent all the Cultivators flying back. The not so lucky ones were sent flying into the brick walls.

"Get up." WangJi and WuXian helped the fallen Cultivators to their feet.

"She's a tricky one." WuXian said, as the woman flickered in and out of existence, only to appear in a different location.

For a few seconds, she stayed in place. Her bloodshot eyes stared at the men, her long black hair covering half of her face, and her bloody nightgown made her a Hell of a sight.

Liu Yang shuddered at the sight of the ghost. But what was more frightening was that the men hadn't had the ghost taken care of already. Even with the notoriously skilled Second Jade Lan on their side!

Liu Yang debated with herself whether she should help them.  Her thoughts were cut short when she heard one of the Cultivators cry out in pain.

She searched for the source of the scream, and found Bing Wen. He was lying on the ground, his arms cradling his bloody leg. His sword had been thrown askew, and with how close the ghost was, he wouldn't be able to grab his sword to defend himself in time.

Liu Yang could help him. Bing Wen was right below where she had perched herself.

The ghost was almost above the bleeding man, Liu Yang had to make her decision.

The woman wailed loudly again and sent a clawed-hand to Bing Wen's face.

"No!" He cried out and raised his arms to block his face.

Just then, Liu Yang finally leapt down. In a blink of an eye, she brandished her daggers from their sheaths and sliced off the incoming hand.

Bing Wen lowered his arms when nothing attacked him. Recognition flashed in his eyes as his sight landed on the person in front of him.

"It's you!"
