Narrator's Pov:
Two weeks later...
Madam Gāo twirled herself, smiling at the reflection of herself in the mirror. She smoothed her hands down the soft material.
The blush pink hanfu wrapped nicely around her fitted waist, with the skirt flowing like a blossoming flower in Spring.
She sighed softly, admiring the front of the dress in the mirror.
Then, a random maid came in and bowed. "Madam, the hairdresser has arrived to--"
Madam Gāo tsked loudly. With a flurry of robes, she spun around to glare at the maid who entered unannounced.
"I don't recall letting you into my room without permission. Are you trying to assassinate your Madam?" Madam Gāo approached the timid maid, who shook her head furiously in response.
"No, Madam. I would do no such thing." The maid said, and bowed her head in apology.
Madam Gāo scoffed and sat down on the chair, in front of a table with a large round mirror. She turned to the maid when the maid didn't move. "Well? What are you still doing here? Go fetch the hairdresser!"
The maid apologised once more and left. Soon after a woman entered with a bag on her arm.
The maid from before returned, carrying a tray of hot tea. "Your evening tea, Madam."
"Set it on the table." Madam Gāo said.
The maid did as she was told then left again. She eyed the Madam through the small gap in the door with a slight smile, before closing the door behind her.
Madam Gāo huffed as the hairdresser delicately threaded her hair through a large headpiece. The Madam's eyebrow twitched, "Can you go any slower? My tea will turn cold!"
"Sorry, Madam."
The hairdresser sped up her pace, but was still careful to not tug on the hair. The hairdresser would rather keep her fingers, thank you very much.
"Finished. I'll take my leave now." The hairdresser said. She put away her tools into her bag and excused herself out the door.
Madam Gāo admired the work done to her hair, and sighed contently. Her vanity took hard work to maintain, but it was all worth it when it boosted her ego.
Madam Gāo moved to the small table in the centre of her chambers. She tsked loudly at the pot of tea and empty cup.
"Must I do everything around here? What is the point of hiring so many servants when they're all so useless!"
Now feeling very annoyed, she decided to not call a servant in and instead poured the tea herself. "Useless, so useless..."
Madam Gāo brought the cull cup to her lips. She blew on the surface twice and drank.
