"Your eyes glitter like the sky,
you're a bittersweet tragedy.
The way you talk, the way you walk,
the way you look at me
makes my heart feel like you're real.
But you're not"
——————————————————————————I finished writing my last few sentences for my essay regarding what we learned from "To Kill A Mockingbird". The grip on my pencil was starting to make a dent on my ring finger.
"Done." I smacked my pencil down on my desk, admiring my 2-hour crafted masterpiece. I reviewed my paper a second time and neatly inserted it into my English folder.
I got up from my chair and turned off the lamp in my room, slowly making my way to my bedroom window and sat down on a little red crate I had collected from my town's farmer's market.
There's a single tree in my backyard, old and leafless. I observed the moonlight shining on the whole world, making terrifying yet interesting shadows. The tree made gigantic spikes sprouting from the grounding reaching out to me. However, it also couldn't help to look like a far away kingdom surrounded by tall fairyland castles where princesses run through the halls in their pastel pink dresses.
I blinked, the heaviness in my eyes growing stronger. I hadn't noticed time had leaped and it was suddenly 12 a.m. If I didn't tuck myself away and closed my eyes in the next 10 minutes, I will regret my decision to stay up late tomorrow morning 1st period.
As I walked over to my bed, I felt my foot kick something under the bed. I bent down, confused, and pulled the worn out title that I had not read in years.
"The Chronicles of Narnia"
I smiled, not sure how the book had gotten there but, nonetheless, happy that it had brought warm memories from my childhood. It had been years since my mom read this to me.
I laid the book on my desk,
"Once there were four children whose names were Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy..."

i opened my sore eyes and looked around my room. i grunted and sat upright on my bed. I was squinting, trying to see everything clearly. i had a nightmare. i hadn't got one since the 5th grade.
i pulled my phone from my bed frame and looked at the time. 6:56 a.m it read. i licked my dry lips and started making my way to my bathroom. i opened up the faucet and cold water started running. my reflection in the mirror looked scary if i may add.
i brushed my teeth, face, did some of my basic makeup and changed my clothes into something more fitting and comfortable. some may say "why wake up so early?" especially in a saturday.
whenever i get a nightmare, it only gets the more terrifying every time i try and go to sleep. instead i save myself the heart attack and get on with my day. im an only daughter with a single mother. we dont talk about my father. she knows me already and if she needs me ill be in the backyard.
i grabbed my phone and made my way outside. it was still dark but the sun's rays were making its way up into the horizon. the crunchy and soggy leaves under my shoes, the slightly damped grass and cold breeze all made me want to throw myself to the ground and sleep while the world speeds off without me.
