Chapter 19 - Thirsty, Annabeth?

"Well, you two are very quiet tonight." Mother said as she sipped on her wine. The glint in her eyes told me she was surely teasing us in good fun, it seemed to be the most interesting thing for her these past few weeks.

On the opposite side of me, Percy did not help the situation by choking on his water. 'Only you can choke on an element you can control Perce.' I couldn't help but think, as a slight smile escaped my notice.

"Interesting." Mother said a full smile now on her lips, eyebrow raised. Gods, I hated how perceptive she was...

"We are just tired from riding the horses this afternoon mother." At that a devious smirk made it's way onto Percy's face, to which I just rolled my eyes.

"As long as you're safe." Sally oh so kindly piped in, which made me blush furiously.

"Queen Sally." I reproached, which made both mother and Sally burst out laughing like a pair of teenagers. I'm sure they were quite devious in their teen years, just imagine the teasing.

"It's all in good fun my dear." Sally said sweetly. "We love you both, I hope you know that."

"You're such a softie mom." Percy said looking at his mother, a sweet smile on his face, which made my heart beat just a little faster. Turning his gaze on me, he winked and took a swig of water. I on the other hand, finished my glass of wine and took a big breath which made the devil chuckle.

"Thirsty, Annabeth?" 

Yes very.

"You're so funny Perce." I said in a deadpan voice.

Most of the evening went by fine, some teasing from the mothers was expected, but Percy's teasing really took me by surprise. After sitting in the living room for some time, I excused myself to go to my room. That wine did something to me...or maybe he did?

I prepared for bed by first taking a shower and doing my skincare routine. I felt the fatigue of the day as I climbed on my bed and laid down my head on the soft pillow... and I couldn't sleep. Why couldn't I sleep?

I gave the tossing and turning an hour while I kept getting more and more frustrated. I was so tired but my overthinking was really not letting my brain rest. I threw my blankets on the ground and released a frustrated breath as I sat on the side of my bed, my head in my hands.

I can't go to him, I said I wouldn't... I want to go to him though, he will help me sleep.

No Annabeth! You're a big girl and you have to be able to sleep on your own bed.

But he is so comforting and smells so good.

Sucking up my pride, I tiptoed out of my room and made my way towards his room. Reaching his door, I was questioning whether I should knock or just enter... when suddenly the door opens and a surprised Percy is on the other side. Getting over his small shock, he grabs my arm and yanks me inside the room, closing the door behind me.

"I thought you said you weren't coming to my room." He whispers as he traps me, his hands resting on the door as my back goes flush against the door. My heart stutters as my brain is scrambled for words. The air around us was tense and charged.

"Why are you blushing princess?" Percy gets impossibly close, a devious smile on his face as his eyes shine with delight. I turn my head away from him before I do something I may regret and take a breath. I feel his lips hover on my jaw, so close to my skin, waiting a beat before he lightly kisses me there. How was a kiss on the jaw having this type of effect on me?
