Bonus Chapter

Maximus's POV

If there was one thing Maximus could say about Sierra Jacobs after the short few weeks was that she's was LOT. She was everywhere. Her scent was now a permanent fragrance around the house, vanilla and coconut- it was almost intoxicating. The inner wolf in him wanted her close, consistently. And he tried everything to stay away.

He tried not being around. He tried running, he had even tried other women.

But every time he caught a whiff of her scent, he went wild.

It didn't help that she had camped over his apartment like it was her own. Her room still had everything boxed up. But his living room had throw pillows and a comforter. Along with sweaters and hair ties.

Oh, the hair ties.

They were everywhere. On the sofa, the kitchen table, the coffee table, above the microwave- he didn't get it. Why would anyone even need so many hair ties.

And nail paint. Rolled over bottles under the sofa and pink dropped stains on the dining table.

It was frustrating. But he didn't realize when the annoyance had ended and the endearments had started. For as long as he could remember he lived alone. He liked that there was someone not scared to invade his private place. Someone who had wormed their way into his home and made It their own. It warmed something in him.

So his instincts went on over drive this morning when he didn't hear her humming while making her awful apple flavored oats for breakfast. He figured she went for a walk or into town.

He went about his own day- training, meetings, pack security and had comeback home to maybe catch a glance at her. Like he had been all week – subtly.

Until he had reached back home, to feel her presence faint- like she had been gone for hours. He had to call her father to get her phone number (he hadn't realized how terrible she was at picking up her phone at the time)- all the while reassuring him that she was on pack land. It almost rid him down with guilt that he hadn't known his own mate's phone number.

But truth was if she was in his territory- he would have been able to sense it. He cursed himself for not putting guards on her. He wanted to give her privacy sure, but it was also because he didn't think she was stupid enough to leave the pack lands.

So when a pack member radioed him in that his mate was in a bar down town filled with humans, he was relieved. He had gone down casually, in an impression that he hoped would give her off as 'coincidental' that they ended up in the same bar.

But all thoughts of just checking up on her and walking away went out the window when he saw the human scum bag put his arms around her delicate shoulder. He nearly wolfed out, wanted to snap his arm out. Instead, he played the game – played her – maybe a little too well. It satisfied him like some sort of barbarian that him with another woman bothered her, like her with another male would him.

"You know I think you started a gossip mill back there." Sierra said trying to snap her seatbelt on.

"It's a small town. People gossip about everything." I muttered leaning over and helping her out. She stiffened when I got close, like if she moved, I would disappear. I lingered a second longer, breathing in her scent and listening to her heart beat, before I righted myself and started the car.
