Chapter 13
I know about You and Jake
Sierra's POV
When Jake walked into the party, I realized with complete and utter horror that, with everything going on, I hadn't wished my best friend a Happy birthday.
Well fuck.
Just as I was about to go over and apologize profusely, someone called my name.
I turned around, and was a little surprised that Alpha Wes was the one calling me. Great. Was he here to convince me to mate his son now? I was so NOT in the mood for this.
"Alpha Wes." I said, offering him a smile. I may be confrontational, but I knew where to play the cards.
"How nice of you to join us today. I hope you're enjoying yourself?" I asked, trying to be polite and not grimace at him for raising a son like Maximus. Alpha Douchebag.
"Yes, I am. Thank you." He said, offering me a smile which I returned.
"Well as nice as it is talking to you Alpha Wes, I have to go... I'll see you later." I said, hoping my tone was polite.
"Actually dear. Do you mind walking with me?" he asked, his smile dropping.
"Alpha Wes, I really should go to Jake to..."I began, but he cut me off.
"Ah. Yes. Jake. You two seem close. Is he your mate?" he asked me, raising an eyebrow.
"No." replied a second too fast, which caused him to raise his eyebrows again.
"I mean... No... we're just really good friends." I said, a little uncomfortable at his thoughtful gaze, which reminded me of the look he had given me at Lenny's the other night.
"Do you mind walking with me?" he said, offering me his arm.
"I really should..." I said pointing to Jake behind me, with my thumb.
"Go to Jake. Yes. This conversation is regarding that." He said, cutting me off.
"About Jake?" I asked him, confused.
"About you and Jake." He explained.
"About me going to Jake?" I asked, it was like we were talking different languages. This whole conversation was confusing.
"I know about you and Jake." He said giving me a look.
Remember when all the Humans were doing the ALS ice-bucket challenge? Yeah, that's how I felt at that moment. Like I was doing the challenge, all over again. I felt like someone had poured some ice water all over me. Cubes and all.
"Now. Can we have this conversation in private or with everyone around?" he asked, offering me his arm again.
I looked around, and thanked god that everyone was around Jake, wishing him for his birthday.
Alpha Wes lead me into the woods, and though he gave off really intimidating vibes, I felt like I could trust him. Maybe not with my darkest secrets and life ambitions, but trust that that he won't harm me or let any harm come to me.
"How did you find out?" I asked him, once we were a little out of earshot.
"Doesn't matter. All that matters, is what you're going to tell your parents about Maximus."
"What am I going to tell them?" I questioned him. He didn't ask me here out of curiosity. He asked me here to tell me what I had to.
"You're going to tell them, that you accept the proposal and that there will be an alliance between the packs." He said.
The way both of stood facing each other and our voices and emotions guarded so as to not give anything away, felt like a negotiation in a deposition hearing.
"And if I refuse?" I dared to ask him.
"Well, you don't want the whole pack knowing the extent of the Beta's human daughter and future Alpha of Riverdale and Blackpaw? Ah. The rumors." He told me smugly.
"Wow. Now I know why your son is an evil, scheming, SELFISH bastard! He gets it from you." I said, my voice raising.
His eyes flashed and a hint of his wolf was seen in them.
"Know your place child. You may be the Beta's daughter and the future Alpha's girl... but you disrespect me or my son one more time, I won't hesitate to snap that neck of yours." He said.
I took a deep breath to calm my beating heart. Yeah, this guy definitely was dangerous.
"You know, you might scare the living daylights out of me. But... I call your bluff." I said, with confidence. Fake confidence.
"Excuse me?" he asked, looking at me like I was crazy.
I probably was crazy, not being afraid of this guy who could snap my neck in two. But I spent 18 years of my life in the supernatural world as a human trying to fit in. And I did. Somewhere along the line, I made my life in it. And it didn't happen by me being afraid of powerful men blackmailing me and scaring me by threats.
I was as manipulative as they came. I think Luna Evie saw that In me, that's why she wanted me to be Luna.
Manipulate. Don't be manipulated.
"I mean what would you achieve by telling everyone about me? You're not going to get anything from it. If anything, you're going to lose the friendship of Alpha Peter. Sure, my secrets going to be out, but I'm human. I'll pack my bags and leave. Then grow old, die. And I'll be forgotten. Jake will find his mate in a few centuries and move on. But Alpha Peter won't sign a treaty with your pack, Jake won't sign a treaty with your pack. And I'm pretty sure Jake's future child won't sign a treaty with your pack. If your pack exists at all. I mean, let's be honest. Your son is kinda an ass. No one is going to spend the rest of their with him. No one sane, anyway. So yes. I'm calling your bluff. Because if you tell him the truth. The little thin thread of hope for an alliance? Goes out that window." I explained, and even though I was pretty smug about it, I made sure my face was expressionless. Hoping that he bought the whole thing.
"Well, this is exactly the kind of behavior from which I think you'd make a great Luna at Shadow Blood Pack. And yes, maybe it ruins the relationship with Alpha Peter if I sold you out. But it also helps me keep my pride in check, I'm not the one to run away with my tail in between my legs." He said, as he straightened out his back and giving me a cold look.
I gulped, if former Alpha Wes even mentioned it to anyone, people would believe him. He was an Alpha. The werewolf community ran on respect.
"Alpha Wes. It's just that... I don't see how your son and I would work. It may be an alliance for fighting against vampires, but there's no immediate threat. Why do we have to do this now? We could see if things work out in a few years." I asked him, hoping he'd agree.
"You think we want this alliance for vampires?" he asked me, his eyebrows raised.
"Isn't that what... Alpha Peter's announcement yesterday... I thought that's what this was about?" I asked, him confused.
"Pack members going back to their origin Packs is because of vampires. This alliance is not." He said, his voice void of emotion.
What was worse than Vampires?
