CHAPTER 1
Beta's human daughter
Vodka isn't just a drink. It drowns your sorrow and misery. The burning sensation behind your throat? The taste still lingering on your tongue? The warmth in your chest and the blurred lines of everything around you? It wasn't a sin. It wasn't just another drink. It was freedom to your soul. However long it may last. The small amount of time it lasts? You' re not in this world or the next. You're in this whole other dimension.Sierra's POV
I laughed and twirled up on the table as a bunch of cheers went around. I grabbed the bottle of blue gin and took a swig, careful not to trip in my 4 inch heels and fall off the table.
My little black dress was snug against my body and it was getting warmer by the minute. I looked around to see most of my friends whom I went to high school with. In two weeks most of them would head to various parts of the world for college. Since I hadn't really bothered too much about my academic career I hadn't really been accepted anywhere beside the local community college.
I swirled one more time and giggled. High school was amazing. I was head cheerleader, I had amazing friends and I was liked by mostly, everyone. Looking around the room I couldn't help but have a feeling of nostalgia take over me.
These were my best friends. Well human best friends. I was born to the beta of Riverdale Pack. My mother was human and my father was a werewolf. A beta at that. I had a brother who was a year older than me and a sister a year younger.
I was the beta's human daughter.
Yes I'm the middle child, how unfortunate.
But honestly I wasn't be the least bit upset. My siblings Aaron and Clarissa were both werewolves. When my mother was pregnant with me she had an "ACCIDENT" and I was born prematurely as a human. Hence I was babied.
Werewolves were immortal. They could die but it was very hard. Werewolves stopped aging around 40 years. When I didn't shift at 14 like most wolves did my parents sobbed the entire night. Not that me being human bothered them but the fact that I was mortal bothered them. The fact that I would grow old. Die. Scared the life out of them. And hence, I was babied. I got everything I ever wanted and asked. Not that I was complaining. Right now I was trying to convince my parents to let me travel around the world for a year before I go to college. But my parents worried too much to ever let that happen.
The door slammed open and a guy ran in.
"Cops! Run!" he yelled.
Everyone stared at him for a second and then began running to the front door.
"Shit!" I hissed and I slid off the table and grabbed my dark blue denim jacket on the floor trying not to trip over as people pushed past me.
I looked over my shoulder and saw the cops by the front door. I ran to the balcony at the back, pulling on my jacket as I did so and swung my legs over the edge. If my parents found out what I was up to I could kiss my traveling trip goodbye. They'd probably cut me off or worse, make me work.
I hissed as I stepped in the ground and slowly tumbled my way into the forest, which BTW with my 4 inch black Chanel heels? Was quite the task.
I pushed my black hair out of my face and noticed the highlights I got on my 18th birthday had faded. Another thing about werewolves was that female gender (human or not) always found their mates if they had one, between the age of 16 to 18. Mostly like the second they turned 16.Never longer than that.
The men however could have to wait for centuries to find their mates. Their other half was probably to be born a few centuries after they were born. Which was why most male wolves slept around a lot. But mostly with humans. They wouldn't want to complicate their relationship with their mates by sleeping with a werewolf. Not that humans couldn't be their mates. Their chances were just less. So needless to say when my parents found out I didn't have a mate, they were heart broken. My fatal life always a sore subject for them. If a wolf is mated to a human, the human becomes immortal too after she is mated. The wolves' DNA mixing with the humans'.
There were 3 steps to mating:
1. You meet your mate and claim her. That's a small mark on the neck to tell other wolves to back off. Sort of like an engagement. Spoken for but can be broken off. Yes. That's possible. Mates reject the process and stay as far away as possible from each other and mate another. But they can never quite be as happy.
2. Mate her. No explanation needed on that process.
3. Mark her. This one was quite permanent. You guys create a bond. And there is no rejecting after that. You both are stuck to each other.
I hissed as another gust of wind blew past me. Clutching my jacket closer to myself as I walked in the forest trying not to fall and to see as much as I could in the darkness.
I hoped I could run into someone from my pack who was doing patrols, so they could lead me back. But so far I was only met with darkness.
My family, like most werewolves lived in the gated community owned by the Alpha. All alpha's around the world own their land legally. The community part of it is gated but we couldn't exactly build a gate around the forest. It would be impractical if we won more land or bought over some. So the woods were left to be. Most humans didn't know that parts of the forest were private. It would raise too many questions if they did.
Packs around the world had different type of lands. Riverdale pack- the one I belonged to, human or not, was on flat lands.
A chill went up my spine and I quickly turned around.
"Hello?" I yelled out into the darkness.
"Hi." Someone whispered into my ear behind me.
That's the first chapter.
