It was his last will. Please do this for us.
I've been staring at the window of the car's backseat for hours now. The weather's too nice today. The skies all cleared up, revealing a canvas of pale blue, and the sun was too bright for my current mood. It seems like the day's mocking my situation right now.
Just the other day, we were in the middle of our practice session when our manager came in, holding a letter of absence issued for me. My parents called the company a week ago, requesting me to leave work for a week for an important reason.
And that important reason was my grandfather's last will.
He died two years ago. We were in Vancouver during that time for a concert. I wasn't really close with him, we barely visit his place because they weren't on good terms with my father. They said that they found out the last will just last week and it was addressed to me.
Dear Yoon Oh,
I know we weren't able to spend much time with each other and I will always regret it. I heard you've grown into such a great man. Greater than what I and your father have become, and I'm very proud of that.
I know that I don't have any right to ask this favor of you Yoon Oh, but if you may, please grant me this one last wish.
Sighing, I took out my phone and checked the latest message I received. It was from Taeyong hyung. I was about to open it when I noticed the empty bars on my signal. We must have reached the farthest part of the countryside to lose connection, but we're just in Gangwon-do. How come there's no signal here?
Putting back my phone inside my pocket I leaned on my seat and stared at the window again. I still don't understand my grandfather's will. None of it makes sense.
Yoon Oh, there's a house I have bought in Gangwon-do. It's not much like the other properties our family owns. It's a nice place, a small one but beautiful. Son, go there, stay for a week. This might sound absurd at first but trust me, you'll find out after.
I heard a lot of things about my grandfather, and none of them were good. It might be biased because the words came out from my father's lips. They said he was a good man who took the Jung family to success, he was a good father because he provided everything his family needed but he was never a good husband. It was the only thing my father hated about him.
He never loved his wife. Father said that he had an affair but there was no evidence or proof of his claim. Even my grandmother, his wife, couldn't point out anything bad about him. Grandfather never cheated, he just doesn't love her.
"Sir we're here"
Grabbing my bag, I went out of the car and closed the door behind me.
The house isn't that grand just like what was stated in the letter. It's a two-story house, designed like the cottage houses you see in the countryside of France. The whole exterior is purely white while strands of plants have covered some parts of the walls and roof. It has an entrance to the backyard at the side and a tree behind it.
I touched the letter hidden inside my pocket.
"Here we go for nothing"
