shorter chapter
"Did you get your email yet, El?" He asks, throwing fries into his mouth carelessly.
"No, did you?" I respond, my thumbs spinning around each other on the island.
"Yeah, I passed all subjects. Got what I needed to do what I want," he smiles. "It's mad, we're 18 and leaving soon, so much has changed," his eyes meet mine as he smiles a bright smile. I smile back, equally as happy for him.
"Congratulations!" I laugh.
"I couldn't of done it without our study sessions," he chuckles back, spinning on his heel to walk to me. He paces towards me confidently, sliding his plate onto the counter.
"Your welcome," I smile, my voice soft. "High-five?" I jokingly ask, holding my hand out.
"Come on, we're bestfriends, give me a hug!" He exclaims and grabs my hand, suddenly pulling me towards him with his arms wrapped around my body in a tight embrace. I smile against his chest as my arms snake around his neck.
"You're gonna do great too, El, I know it!" He whispers, nuzzling into my neck.
"Thankyou, Josh," I whisper back as he slowly pulls away from me. Although, his hands linger on my back for a second. My heart races in my chest as his warm hands trace my back in a repetitive manner.
His lips have a small smile plastered on them, as his hand continues to run over my back. I return his smile on my blushing face.
"Blushing again?" He whispers against my cheek.
"I- I guess," I stutter back, not even trying to hide it. He lets out a low chuckle, one I've never heard before.
"It's cute, El," he continues, so close I feel his warm breath on my cheek.
"Josh, you've just had a breakup-"
"With an awful girl who broke my heart everyday. Besides, I'm just complimenting you, it's not like-"
My phone starts buzzing. He stops talking.
"Are you gonna finish?" I ask, as I reach towards my phone.
One new Email.
"Ah, no, I shouldn't," he awkwardly mumbles and walks over to beside me. I feel the curiosity boil inside of me before he suddenly pokes me.
"Phone, email, results," he rapidly says. I nod as a response and quickly open my email, my dark eyes scanning over the screen as fast as they can. As I stare at my faint reflection in-between seconds I feel the butterflies raise in my belly.
"Well?" He urgently questions from my side. I don't respond for a second, my eyes still trying to focus on the blurry words before me.
"I did it..." I suddenly whisper.
"You did it..." he whsipers back, one of his arms wrapping around me. "I always knew you would, El. I am so proud."
"I need to tell my parents, even though they get home later tonight I can't wait," I pull away from him, slowly.
"You go do that," he smiles. "But first..." suddenly, his arms are wrapped around me again. Tighter than before. I smile against his chest, my arms around him.
"Number twenty three: your passions."
