As April faded into May and May faded into June, Jack got his cast off and the last day of school was soon just a few days away, along with the talent show. Most of the newsies had perfected or were close to perfecting their acts, Maine was in that group, she really wanted to get Sky to see a video of her routine so she could seal her spot on the cheer team, she just hoped that her nerves wouldn't get the best of her. That normally didn't happen, but she was working towards something here.

"I can't believe we're going to be in high school," Davey chuckled, "it's really insane,"

"Yeah," Jack agreed, "you ready for the talent show?"

"I think so," Davey nodded.

"You've got this, no need to be nervous," Jack patted him on the back, "if you want to practice in front of someone, I'm always here for you,"

"Thanks, Jack," Davey smiled.

"You boys talking about the talent show?" Kara came over to where the newsies were sitting, she  had a smug looking smile on her face, "surprised you're still wanting to do it considering I'M one of the judges,"

"Your point is?" Race blinked.

"You think you have a chance at winning?" Kara had a fake look of sympathy on her face, "that's so cute,"

"It's not about winning, it's about having fun," Maine stood face to face with Kara, who decided to make a point that Maine was almost a head shorter than her by placing a hand on Maine's head, but Maine just rolled her eyes, "Listen, little miss Petty Brat, you really think the newsies would care about winning? Nuh-uh, so you can go back to the little corner of land where you can feel like you're better than us, and leave us be, your five seconds of fame are near over,"

"Need I point out that you're disrespecting your ASB Vice President, Mini, know your place," Kara had a warning tone.

"Not for much longer, heck, school gets out in what? Two days? Then what will you be? You'll just be some Freshman, just like the rest of us," Maine glared at her.

"I got five bucks that say Kara gets b-word slapped," Race whispered to Albert.

"You just want to see that happen," Albert rolled his eyes, "but wouldn't we all?"

"YOU shouldn't even BE going to high school, what are you, like eight?" Kara shifted her weight onto her right leg, but if looks could kill, she'd be dead, because Maine was glaring bullets right through her brain.

"I'm twelve, almost thirteen, actually, and I belong here a million times more than you do," Maine crossed her arms, "now leave my friends and I alone, don't you have something better to do?"

"Yeah, I bet Morris is wondering where you are," Race cupped his hands over his mouth.

"You're sick," Kara crossed her arms, "you're really sick,"

"Hang on, I thought she was dating Oscar?" Albert looked at Race.

"I am," Kara cut in defensively, "that's why your comment was absolutely gross," she turned away with a flip of her hair and marched off.

"You don't think she's..." Davey watched her leave.

"No, Morris wouldn't allow that," Jack shook his head, "and even if she were, it's none of our business,"

"You know, we haven't planned our last day of school party," Crutchie pointed out.

"I didn't have a birthday party either, I think this year has just been too crazy to have parties, it's like our whole life has been a party," Jack shrugged, "you know what I mean?"
