October faded into November, and while the weather wasn't necessarily cold, it was definitely getting colder. Jack and Katherine's relationship had evolved to the point where they were hugging and holding hands, and Maine and Crutchie did not approve of it, it didn't seem right.

"Oh, Jack, you're already up," Crutchie noticed when he came downstairs one Saturday morning.

"Yeah," Jack nodded without looking Up from his phone.

"What're you doing?" Crutchie asked him.

"Texting Katherine," Jack shrugged.

"Ooh," Crutchie said in a mocking voice.

"Shut it," Jack said calmly.

"Oh, but you're allowed to tease me for a crush I don't even have?" Crutchie put his free hand on his hip.

"That's exactly why, you won't own up to the fact that you have a crush on her!" Jack explained.

"Well as long as we're sharing useless opinions, I don't agree with your relationship with Katherine," Crutchie was getting slightly heated.

"Why not?" Jack stood up.

"I don't know, it just doesn't seem right," Crutchie shrugged.

"Why doesn't it seem right, Charlie?" Jack stepped towards him.

"You did not just real-name me," Crutchie shook his head, then he quickly snatched Jack's phone.

"What are you doing?" Jack tried to grab it back, but Crutchie wasn't having it.

"I'm gonna at least try to prove a point," Crutchie opened the messages between Jack and Katherine. He scrolled up to what they texted a few days previously and read down from there, "Oh my gosh, that's it? You two are like, the most boring couple ever, it doesn't seem like she's even into you,"

"What do you mean?" Jack asked, starting to be less angry and more confused.

"Well, every time you suggest going out to ice cream or something, she changes the subject," Crutchie pointed out.

"I... I didn't even notice," Jack shrugged.

"You... have a problem," Crutchie shook his head and gave Jack's phone back.

Across town, the Jacobs family was making homemade ice cream for Sarah's birthday.

"Okay, are we adding strawberries INTO the ice cream or using them as a topping?" Mrs. Jacobs asked Sarah.

"I literally couldn't care less," Sarah shrugged.

"Well, let's have them as a topping in case your dad or Les doesn't want them," Mrs. Jacobs decided, she didn't include herself or Davey on the list of people who potentially wouldn't want strawberries because they both loved strawberries.

"So, how does it feel to be sixteen?" Davey asked Sarah jokingly.

"Well, I'm going to have a drivers test in a few weeks," Sarah answered, "and I'm super excited, now I won't need mom to take me places, just her permission!"

"Oh, yeah," Davey nodded. Sarah felt her phone vibrate and took it out of her pocket.

"Oh my gosh... look who remembered my birthday!" Sarah showed Davey her screen, there was a text from Katherine that said 'Happy B-day, S.'

"Who is it?" Mrs. Jacobs asked.

"My friend Katherine," Sarah answered a little too quickly.

"Okay... well, we best start this ice cream if we want it ready by lunch time," Mrs. Jacobs took the ice cream machine out of the freezer and set it on the counter, "First we're going to need the cream..."
