Chapter 10

“That was idiotic, Alex. Now, everyone would be on our trail and the Hunters will be suspicious.” Iyanna paced back and forth in agitation.

                                     

Alex merely stared at her with a half-amused expression.

“What’s done is done.” He said which only added to her rage.

“Idiot, brainless idiot! What were you thinking?” She ranted on.

I can’t really blame Iyanna for acting this way. Even I couldn’t understand the way Alex’s mind work sometimes but usually, his plans work and he’s also the one who got us to Caul whereas I had been nothing but a burden the whole journey, my shame was still eating on me and I felt that I have no right to ask questions.

“Anyway, it’s good that the kids are not here. It means they have move, they probably are in Elsworth now.” Alex said.

Iyanna ignored him and continued on her rant. I tuned her out and turned to Alex.

“Or they might be with the Hunters now.” I said.

Alex shook his head.

“The Hunters are somewhere in the East, a couple of streets away. I couldn’t pinpoint where exactly, other scents are interfering but I’m pretty sure that the Young Ones are not with them.”

I sighed in relief.

Good job, kid.

I thought to myself.

I wasn’t wrong about Randall and I’m proud of him. I just hope that we would be able to return to them before they arrive at Siltstone village, for if they arrive before we did, then Randall will have a lot of explaining to do.

I vanquished the thought, I’ll deal with it when the time comes.

“So, what’s your plan, smartass?” I asked Alex.

“Change our appearance then track the Hunters once more, avoid more conflict with the authorities, try not to get caught.” He answered casually as if what he was saying was nothing but a stroll in the park.

“Oh, great ideas, and how would we do that, oh, Wise One?” Iyanna mocked.

“We have daggers with us, and the taps in this building still works. You would be surprise at what a bath, a new haircut and a change of clothes could do.” He answered her, not taking offense despite of her tone.

“Where would we get clothes?” I inquired.

“We’ll borrow them.” Alex said with a wolfish grin.
