Chapter 20"Have you really decided about the course you want to take, Clair? Don't you wanna try business? I could enrol you in a business university if you want me to."
I know we'd get to this point. I know that I anticipated this question for a long time now. I was so sure. I wasn't hesitant about what I wanted. But right at this moment, I still don't know how to properly answer it without hurting or disappointing anyone. Ever since I was a child, I dreamt to be a doctor, a veterinarian doctor to be specific. However, my father wants me to take a job that I don't have a growing passion for.
This should be a good argument. Ayokong masayang ang pinag-aralan ko.
"I want to be a doctor, Dad."
"I was hoping that you'd take over the company, Clair. I already had a contract stating that you'd take over once you graduated."
She couldn't refute this 'cause she also thinks that I should reconsider their expectation. But I am determined to carve my own path... ayokong umikot sa pagiging kapitalista ang mundo ko.
"Gian could take care of our business," I felt sorry for dragging my brother here.
My brother looked at me with a striking disapproval but then he shrugged. "I'm fine with it, Dad. I'm planning to take Accountancy..."
Umiling si Dad. "No. I want you to be an engineer, Gian. You'll be the head of the firm that your mom founded." Our father sighed. He massaged his temples, getting miserable of our own chosen paths.
"So, who's gonna lead our business then? Do you think I'd let someone in the board to manage our company when the heirs can do the work instead?" tumingin siya sa'min ni Gian. "You are Fonaciers, and you are expected to lead businesses."
My eyes dropped on the plate. I lost my appetite.
If a person's not passionate enough to take the course, I know for sure that the person would only flop it and shift into another course.
All I did the rolling days was reviewing.
I collected a vast amount of air. My head's spinning because of information overload. I rested my back on the wooden rails of the chair. I squeezed my eyes shut because they were hurting so badly. Bukas na ang last entrance exam at heto ako, nagla-last minute review!
The tranquility of the place relaxed me a bit. It was Ramsis who was actually noisy. He was sipping his coffee in an audible irritating noise.
"Papasa ka naman一"
"I need silence, Ram. You can talk to me after five minutes," I requested with eyes still closed. I really need peace. Numbers and letters are dancing in my mind.
"Okay. I'll shut up for now," he said like a kid who quickly understood her mother's request.
I heard a screeching sound but I didn't pay my attention there. I later on felt a warm hand captivating my right hand. He opened my palm and started to put pressure on the points where he thinks would help my stress be at ease.
