"Oh no."  Kate uttered the words like a jolly-roger flapping in a sea-wind.  "Abel, you have to see this."

"What is it?"  I arched my neck to see over her shoulder.  The only thing I could make out was a picture of a Hermes staff.  "Read it aloud."

She cleared her throat.  "Earlier today, at 12:40 pm, a massive energy wave spread from the backwater of Montana.  The energy wave, which was composed in a way never seen before, has unknown effects.  'We don't know what this wave did,' stated Dr. Baron of the department of defense upon interview, 'but we do know that it effected every human being on this planet.  Needless to say, it is essential that we discover the source and purpose of this massive energy phenomenon.' However, other scientists at the health bureau have another theory.  They posit that this wave has caused the rash of mass healing that religious institutions have been calling 'god's mercy.'  Nevertheless, all scientists agree that they must find the source of the wave and investigate it."

"Uh-oh."  I turned to Jeanie.  "Will they be able to find us?"

She shrugged.  "I don't know.  It's been an hundred and fifty years since I was out.  I didn't expect them to know at all-- I mean, other than the obvious effects."

Kate rubbed her temples.  "This is bad.  This is really bad.  I might have to move-- you know this house has been in our family for generations, right?  And I was looking forward to Chris having a stable place--"  She cut herself off, putting her head in her hands.

"Hey."  I said.  "Grampa and Grandma wouldn't have minded about the house.  They would have wanted us to be safe."

"That's not the point."  Kate replied.

"Hey guys--"  Jeanie said.  "What's that noise?"

"What?"  Kate asked.

I listened.  The doorbell was ringing.

Kate and I looked at each other.  Apprehension rose in my throat.
