author's note: hey guys so just a little note.. I've added a bit of vulgar to the story to make the characters a bit interesting. remember Zola is Xhosa. but I've added translations in brackets so that everyone can understand.
Weeks went by and Eva started spoiling with unexpected lunches. She'd just buy me food or whatever. I never asked questions I just enjoyed the princess treatment. This one time on my way to class I bumped into her and we talked
Eva: so I broke up with Tumi
Me: oh I- well okay
Eva: I did it for you
She said attempting to walk away leaving me in shock
Me: wait
She turned around and looked at me
Me: if you did it for me then why aren't you with me?
Eva: I- uh-
Me: it's fine leave it
I said and left her standing there. I don't understand her, she always leaves people for me but never be with me, instead she'll go love someone else and claim she loves me making me the other girl.
Days turned into weeks and we wrote our end year exams and finished. You can already guess what was happening again at this point Eva and I were finally trying this vibing thing again probably for the hundredth time. So I'm in my room chilling and I decide to call Eva but it rings and she doesn't answer. I try again thinking maybe she didn't hear it and finally she answers but doesn't say anything but I hear a funny noise on her line
Me: hello?
Voice: uh yessss Eva do me just like that baby lick that pussy baby ohh I like it like th-
I just dropped the call. How could she answer the phone just to let me hear all that. My heart broke into a million pieces. I deleted her everywhere in my phone and tried move on. She never called me back or texted I guessed I never meant anything to her.
3 months later
It was now my birthday, the first birthday text I got was from Eva. To say I was surprised is an understatement but I thanked her and life went on. As you know it was my big day so the presents were coming through I was literally the happiest girl on earth. After school I went home carrying so many gifts, my mom cooked lunch for me and bought me a huge cake. She does this every year she always makes me feel like a princess on my birthday. We ate and just conversed for a while then there was a knock on the door
Me: I'll get it
I said getting up from my seat. I walk towards the door, I hold the door handle tightly, push it down and bring it towards me with my head facing down
Voice: happy birthday Queen
I slowly observe from her white air force to her black ripped skinny jeans and all the way up to her white t-shirt and puffed black jacket, slowly I tilt my head up and look at her
Me: Thando?
She brings her hands forward the other holding a bouquet of flowers.. lilies to be exact, the other holding a gift bag
Thando: you look gorgeous
Me:and you smell so good
I murmured
Thando: huh? What was that?
She says smiling. Mxm idiot
Me: nothing uhm thank you so much for coming by you can leave now
Thando: aren't you gonna let me in?
Me: i- uhm-
*mom shouts from the other room: hhayi wena man Zola ngenisa omnye umntana umphe nantsi iCake
Tyini kutheni waske wavimba kangaka?!! (no man Zola let the other child get in and give her cake. Why have you suddenly become stingy?!! )
I huffed and opened the way for her and she sat on the couch and I dragged my feet to the kitchen to get a slice of cake with juice on the side and served her. My mom gave us space and went to talk to her nosey neighbour
Me: what are you doing here thando
Thando: here to wish my girl a happy birthday hawu what's wrong
Me: your what? Your girl?
Thando: I didn't starter did I?
Me: 6 months Thando!! SIX!!! You haven't talked to me in six damn months and you let me leave your house whilst you were mad at me for God knows what. You never talked to me ever since then you think you can come back 6 months later and still call me your girl?! You must be definitely high from smoking pot
My voice was shaking so bad. That's how I get when I'm angry my tears were at the edge of my eyes. She got up irritated and came towards me looking at me straight in the eyes, her look was so cold it sent shivers to my spine, she didn't look remorseful at all in fact she looked scary, my heart was racing so I moved back
Me: leave
Thando: Zola i-
Me: I said leave thando!! OUT!!!
I shouted pointing to the door. She shook her head and left. I don't care if even if she shook it till it fell off. How dare she ruin my day like that! After she left I ran to my room and started crying so much while still on that I got a text message from thando, I wasn't in the mood for her but I opened it anyway it read: "you ungrateful bitch" I just looked at it then blocked her everywhere possible and continued wailing then I heard my mom's voice coming towards my room so I tried to wipe my tears
Mom: haiibo Zola awusaqoqoshi no qoqosha ntombi... hee mamela, yazi uthini Umasithole- (Zola you don't even clean up girl... anyways listen, do you know what Masithole said-)
She paused laughing when she opened my bedroom door
Mom: haiibo haiibo Zola kutheni walala emini apha (Zola why are you sleeping midday?)
I wiped my tears and sniffled as I got up to sit straight
Mom: haiibo Zola yintoni ngoku(what's wrong) why are you crying on your birthday mntanam(my child)
She came to my bed and sat close to me and pulled me to her warm embrace.. just what I needed.. a mother's love. So I sobbed and sobbed for a good 10 minutes with my mom telling to cry and not cry at the same time but eventually I was fine and told my mom that thando and I just had a little misunderstanding that we were going to fix soon and besides.. "friends" fight all the time.
