Patchstar woke from his dream, he dreamt of Mapleshade crossing the river. He looked up, MapleClan was still here, she spirit of Mapleshade lived here, safe in the clan. His fluffy tail flicked, it had been so stressful without Mapleshade guiding him through all of it. And his father died at the claws of his mate, Petal was expecting Angus's kits, so she decided to live there forever,
Larch was busy taking Rosepaw on patrols. His weakness made him helpless, Patchstar closed his eyes, wondering if it was too early to die. And then, darkness swarmed around him, "huh?" he wasn't in MapleClan, but the place of no stars! Reedshine's orange spirit appeared,
"Reedshine?" he flinched. "Don't worry, young one, you lost a life," Patchstar flickered his gaze, "then why am I in the place of no stars?" Reedshine didn't answer, her mouth opened to speak, but he couldn't hear her, all he could make out was,
"watch," Patchstar gazed at the clearing, a stocky, thick-furred light brown tabby walked into it, green eyes glowing.
who's that? he realized the long tortoiseshell fur in a snap,
"Mapleshade? what's she--?!" Reedshine used her toe to shush him. "watch," she repeated. Mapleshade stepped forward, "Stormkit," her legs went up, "do you want the trees gone? or the cats gone?" Stormkit locked his tail, "the trees," he mewled.
Just then, the trees disappeared! Patchstar backed away, "how did she do this?" Reedshine stayed silent. "would you like vole or mice?" Stormkit swiped his tongue over his lip.
"vole!" he answered, gulping it in one bite. "would you like, injured hind leg, or crooked jaw?" Stormkit gasped, he backed away, "MAPLESHADE?! RUN STORMKIT!" Reedshine closed her eyes, "he can't hear you." she admitted, blue eyes shining.
"crooked jaw it is!" Stormkit stopped, his jaw started to move, then it twisted! "NO, you poor kit!" he started to plunge in, but Reedshine held him back as the picture grew blurry. "w-what's going on now?" black appeared and it turned blank.
"that wasn't Mapleshade, was it?" Reedshine shook her head, "it was, that'll happen in the future if you don't think fast and kill her spirit." she echoed. Patchstar backed away and closed his eyes, "n-no! she is my mother!" he spat.
"she's bad, but---it's your choice weather you kill her or not." Reedshine turned back, "W-wait!" a snowstorm appeared as he said it, coughing and gurgling something from his neck.
he tried to get it off! "REEDSHINE!!!" Larch watched the body, "oh, Patchstar, where are you?" he fought his green eyes open. "Larch," he croaked, a fox trap ringing around his throat. "it's okay, I'm okay, I--just need to rest for a while." Larch licked him between the ears,
"more than a while, that was very deep. Please stay in your den for at least---Myler, how long should Patchstar rest for?" his small black-and-white head appeared, "about, five moons," Patchstar sighed,
"thank you," "before you go, Patchstar, I need to put some fresh moss to stop your bleeding." the young leader nodded and squeezed into the barn. A huge paw placed around his red-ringed neck, and coldness hit him like ice. "keep that on, will you?" he called as Patchstar entered his den. "yes, I will."
