Patchstar hoped he could spot his apprentice swimming from Mapleshade, he did see tabby markings splashed on white fur. "hold on, I'm coming!" he hissed, splashing into the river. His haunches springing up water, he sank once, then saw long legs swimming toward shore,

but Mapleshade was gaining up on him, shock flashed his gaze, what if Mapleshade caught him before the small apprentice would swim up.

He turned and knocked Mapleshade, "STAY AWAY FROM HIM, MAPLESHADE!!!" Mapleshade gurgled and broke free,

she splattered blood as Bramble sank his teeth into her whole muzzle. Mapleshade squealed in pain and skidded out, Patchstar narrowed his eyes as he saw his apprentice gasping for breath at shore. But when he made it, he was knocked over and swept away. "N-NO, HELP MEEEEE!!!"

he called, but no answer, he WAS going to drown, so he let himself go into nothingness. "PATCHSTAR, PATCHSTAR, PATCHSTAR!" tiny voices called, "Tree? Sun? Moonrise?" tiny cocking heads caught his eye, Petal's kits were cocking and cocking until they sprang and sank their teeth into him. Larch dragged Patchstar's body in the middle of the clearing,

"he's losing lives quickly, but don't worry, as long as he stays in the den, he's fine." Bramble nodded. "I thought so," Larch watched his own

apprentice stretch her long, thick-furred legs. "did Patchstar die again?" she asked, "yes, stay away for a while, he needs to heal," Bramble turned his head, "when do you think Mapleshade will be gone?" he asked. "I don't know...." they watched as the sun rose above the trees into a new light.
