Chapter 27

-Maribel pov-
The fiancés are holding Emma as she sleep. James is the one working on Rose. He hasn't given us a update at all. He did get children toys brought for the girls though.

He's talked with the head of the hospital and got a expansion made. For people who do what we do they have a waiting room now. It makes us feel safe and included. I run a hand through Santana's hair as she plays by my leg.

I look and see Sam talking to a girl at the doorway. They had a date that they had to postpone. I see grace spaced out and sigh. It was a weird waking today.

-10 hours ago-
"Hhhhhllous" I rub my eyes and sit up "Hello?"

"It's Shelby" I look around the bed and notice she's gone along with Emma "Emma's mom...she came and passed out! We don't know what's going on! Please..please wake the girls up and get here..Emma needs everyone"

"Be calm for Emma..we'll be there in a minute" I hang up and shake Judys shoulder "Babe you need to get up!"

"Calm down Mari" She rolls and faces me "It's all good"

"Emma's mom came here and passed out" Judys eyes burst open "We need to get the girls up and head to the hospital"

"Alright" Judy is quickly up "I'll work on Cass and Mads"

I nod and run to the first room "Rach! Lucy! San! Brittany!" The girls move slightly and I turn the light on "Girls I need you all up ok?"

"Mumsy?" Oh good they are little "Mumsy!"

"I'll be right back ok?" I quickly run out and to the next room "Sugar! Pam! I need you to get Sam up and help me get the girls ready!"

"What's going on?" Pamela sits up confused "Why do we need to be ready?"

"Emma's mom came and passed out" I see her eyes go wide "Get everyone up and ready"

"I'm here to help" Madison rubs her eyes "Let's get this going"

It takes a bit but we finally get everyone awake. We are out the door in two vans and heading to the hospital. When we arrive we quickly head to where Shelby told me to go.

Emma is immediately in our arms and sobbing. I feel my heart break as I hear her cry. This girl doesn't deserve this. She's too pure for this shit.

"Mari?" I look over at Shelby "You need sleep"

"I'm still on watch duty" I keep my yawn back and turn my head "Just go back to sleep"

"I've been asleep for four hours" I can feel Shelby's eyes on me "Why aren't you going to sleep?"

"I see it every time I close my eyes" I look and see Shelby confused "I see my mom every time"

"What happened?" I don't respond "Did she pass out?"

"Breast cancer" I look at Santana who's asleep leaning on my leg "It comes and goes with our genes apparently"

"Santana's surgery?" I nod "I'm sorry"

"She pushed and pushed to make sure she saw her granddaughter" I smile remembering my mom "She was alive until Santana was born...but she couldn't see her"

"Why?" I look back at Santana "Why couldn't she?"

"She was too weak and it was too risky" I sigh and go on "We showed her the video and a picture...it was almost instantaneous"

Silence falls between us "You mom must have been a great woman" I nod with a smile "She did create you after all"

"Flattery won't work" I yawn and go to grab my coffee cup "I'll stay awake for Emma"
