The girl woke up with a startling hop, gasping in the dark, cold, dusty air as water, that had been trapped in her lungs escaped through her mouth. A sound echoed in the distance as the metal container she was in moved upward in a fast motion. The girl scurried around in the box. She was wet, the girl observed. Why was she wet? The sound of metal against metal came across the lift. Where was she going? the girl thought. But the most important question she asked herself, was, 'who am I?'
The girl had no memories whatsoever. No name, no knowledge, no personality, no nothing. She knew nothing about herself. As she turned her back up to the cold, barred walls that were keeping her from leaving the lift, she put her hands in her jacket pockets. In there, were two items, first thing that she pulled out, was a knife. It was sharp and delicate, surely to be a good weapon. The second, was a blue bottle of some sort of serum. It was like a syringe that would be used to be inserted into her. From the light that escaped the outside and led into the caged elevator, the young girl could see the color. It was blue.
The look of the blue serum ignited something in her memory. A memory. She remembered something. She remembered never crying. Something about that seemed strange to her. As she looked down onto the legs, only covered half way because of the shorts, the girl saw cuts and bruises all over them. She hadn't cried during whatever beating she was being taken? The second thing she remembered was a woman. An older woman, with blonde hair and dark brown eyes. She had called her mother. It was her mom. You would think memories of your mother would be happy, but those were not. She remembered her mother inserting that serum into her, watching her mother as blue liquid came cascading around her. Watching as her mother sat there as people beat the young girl up. Memories of her mother were not a good thing.
There was one more thing inside her knowledge, but it seemed further out of reach. Like she was only a little too far to get it, but everything else was much further. A noise sounded in the background, and the young girl looked over and was met with the rapid eyes of a caged dog. As the ferocious dog barked at her, the girl stood up, but it seemed she was too tall for the lift, and vigorously hit her head on the roof of it. As she stumbled back down something came to her. Her name. "My name is Linnea," she told herself. She didn't know how she knew, but it just came to her. That was her name. Linnea.
The room Linnea was trapped in started to speed up until it reached a point, to which it halted into a sudden stop. On top of the roof, two doors lifted up and out of each other, showing a beautiful blue sky above her. A beautiful, cloudless sky. Slowly, Linnea lifted herself out of the elevator and saw her surroundings.
Along with the beautiful clear sky there was an open clearing, full of bright green grass. To the left of her, she saw a forest, deep, but still visible in the end. What stood out the most to Linnea, though, was the big, giant walls that stood in front of her, opened as if inviting her to go in and see what was inside.
"A glade," Linnea told herself, softly, listening to the hum of her voice she had just heard for the first time. "This is the glade."

Thomas woke up with a smile, but it disappeared when he saw his arms, empty, not holding Linnea. He frantically looked around the room and saw no one. No Linnea.
Sounds from beyond the door, enclosing in his chambers sounded of running and crazed screaming. Something crazy was going on; but that was not on his mind. The only thing Thomas could think of was Linnea. Where was she?
Thomas got dressed and quickly opened the door to the white hallway. When the door was open, a doctor ran into him, but before Thomas could even apologize, the man was back up again. When Thomas spotted the sight of Dr. Ava Paige, he stopped his girlfriend's mother and asked her what seemed to be the most important question to him at the moment. "Where's Linnea?"
Ava looked around, cautiously, then pulled him back into his room. When she shut the door, she quietly answered, so that no one else could hear them. "She's in the maze. I put her there."
Thomas was about to scream. She was in the maze? Before Thomas could even get a word out, though, Ava was ahead of his. She shoved her hand at his face, much like she had to her daughter the night before. "Thomas," she tried to calm the young brunette down. "She's out of here. That's all that I wanted."
"You didn't have to put her in the maze!" Thomas started breaking down as his heart felt like it was being crushed into a million little pieces. Linnea was gone. She was out in the dangers of the maze. Alone. And soon a ton of other boys will enter and be with her. But not Thomas.
"Thomas," the blonde woman put a hand on his own. "She wanted to bring you. She said that she made you a promise. I will promise you one thing though." Thomas brought his light brown eyes to meet with her dark ones. "You will see her again."
Suddenly, the steel door behind them opened, showing Leavitt. "I was just telling Thomas about our current situation," Ava told the man, looking at Thomas, her eyes begging for her not to give her up. So Thomas didn't. It might be the only way he would ever get to see Linnea again.
"Okay," Leavitt said. "Good, well I was just coming to inform you, that we are going to finish with the cameras we are going to use. Tomorrow night we will set them in the maze. Thomas, if you would like, you can come with us. Teresa too. Then we will have to start preparing for more to be sent up. Thomas, would you like to go?"
"Yes!" Thomas exclaimed. Even if it was just a short while. Even if she would not be able to see him, Thomas needed to be able to somewhat see her again. He needed to see her. He loved her, and he would always love her. No matter what.
Author's note:
She's in the maze! I'm so excited to get to the part where more people enter the maze! It is going to be super different. There might be a large amount of chapters like it though. I hope that is okay. A little while until you get Thomas to come to the maze. It will be three years though. I really hope you are enjoying this story!
