Chapter 26: The Reveal of a Concealed Secret

Kirby would be lying if he said he wasn't at all freaked out about the giant eyeball floating above his head.

The dark, round creature stared at the three heroes, its red eye laced with deep dislike. Kirby couldn't help but shiver under its overwhelming gaze.

It could possess others, just like the Demon Frog! What if they were the same? What if this was another form of the Demon Frog? Would it possess him? Would Dark Matter control him and use his him as a weapon? Thoughts of all kinds raced through Kirby's head, and he tried to his best to calm himself down.

No, he wouldn't think like this! He was a Star Warrior, after all. He could do this. He just had to breathe. This time, he had friends with him. They wouldn't let him get possessed, right?

Searching for an ability he could copy, Kirby spotted a lone leaf lying next to his feet, almost being too convenient to be true. Opening his mouth, Kirby rushed forwards to unleash an unforgiving vortex of wind. Sucking up the leaf, Kirby could feel himself transforming, feeling a sudden wave of serenity wash over him.

A stray leaf fluttered infront of Kirby, catching the Star Warrior's attention as he dived after the leaf, a joyful smile on his face. However, the leaf made its escape as it soon disappeared, leaving Kirby crestfallen. Not long after, a tide of leaves flew around Kirby, causing him to yelp in fright as he was enveloped by a storm of green. After a few moments, the wind died down, showing Kirby with a crown of fresh leaves. Kirby plucked a leaf from his crown and tossed it aimlessly into space.

Leaf!

"That is... Leaf Kirby!" Kirby heard Meta Knight gasp. He was watching Kirby through pride-filled eyes. "That is an ability we have never seen before..."

"Tch. Don't stand there awestruck!" Shadow growled from beside the veteran Star Warrior. Shooting more energy spears towards Dark Matter, he continued, "We still have a battle going on, and I'm not going to waste any time if you need saving. You're either rescuing yourself, or Kirby rescues you."

Meta Knight's eyes shifted white as his gaze widened for a brief moment, meeting Kirby's cerulean stare. He could sense embarrassment and humiliation radiating from the knight. After all, knights didn't get distracted, did they? Especially one with a high status, such as Meta Knight.

Slashing Galaxia in the air and shooting a sword beam, he entered the fray once more. Without his cloak, Meta Knight seemed to be even faster as he dodged a series of orange bullets from Dark Matter.

"Apologies, my friend. Kirby, stay back. Send only long ranged attacks at our foe."

Kirby nodded. Focusing all of his concentration onto Dark Matter, he shot out both of his paws to send the monster a gust of razor-sharp edged leaves.

The monster just barely dodged however, leaving all of the leaves to scatter loosely in the wind. They all fell onto the grassy floor, causing Kirby to frown. How did Dark Matter dodge his stellar aim? Trying out the same attack once more, his results were identical to his last attempt as he watched the storm of leaves float to the ground, with not even a single one scratching Dark Matter.

The third time, Dark Matter didn't even move as the attack phased through its spherical body. Kirby froze in shock, not registering what was going on.

The... the leaves... they had just gone through it! Like it was some sort of illusion!

"It went right through him!" Shadow exclaimed, voicing out Kirby's thoughts. Throwing an electrical spear at Dark Matter to test their theory, the hedgehog hissed in irritation when his attack was also absorbed by the gas-like monster.
