Chapter 9: Reunited

Kirby was sleepy.

Even though he was the hero of Cappy Town, Dreamland, Popstar, a whole galaxy, he was still a baby.

Which meant that he still needed his sleep.

Clinging onto Dedede's crown, Kirby sighed out a huff of relaxation, his body melting and releasing any tense spots as he grew comfortable in the soft material.

If it had been dark, he would be awake. But he felt safe at day, as the sun's sharp rays glinted harshly at his delicate gaze. The air was warm and comforting, unlike the silent cold of the darkness.

The two hedgehogs, puffballs, and the king were all traveling over to one of Sonic's friends house, who was named Amy. When Dedede asked about Amy, all Sonic said was, "She's a good little sister." Shadow snorted at this, with Sonic sending him a sharp glare.

They were at a place called 'Green Hill Zone', which were one of the many zones that consisted on South Island, the island they were currently on. The grass was unique, looking as if they were made of brown and green tiles as they were strewn across the ground, with beautiful flowers poking from the ground here and there.

"You have to meet Tails," Sonic babbled to Meta Knight, who seemed to be very curious about Sonic and his life. "He's super smart, probably smarter than Eggman! Of course, I guided him with my brotherly footsteps, and taught him the ways of a mechanic! He can make all sorts of machines, from robots that can read your mind to a device that allows time to slow down! He's seriously the best."

Meta Knight's eyes flashed pink, amused at Sonic's rambling. "So, you and Tails are brothers, right?" he asked. "But he is a fox? Are one of you adopted?"

Sonic stopped, his eyes growing wide, before he gave Meta Knight a reasurring smile. "That's right! Me and Tails are brothers. But... well, we're both orphans. I found him... lost in a forest one day, and since then, we've been together."

Dedede spoke up. "Lost?" he echoed, his eyebrows creasing. The king looked a little suspicious. "Are you sure tha' his parents aren' still out there, lookin' for 'im?"

Sonic shook his head. "I'm positive. You don't think I'm a kidnapper, do you?" Sonic said, his voice suddenly dropping with accusation. Dedede put his arms up, hurriedly denying the claim.

"No, no! I don't think you are!"

Sonic gave him a dry laugh. "Nah, I was only kidding. Say, what about you Meta Knight? Didn't you say you were born on another planet that wasn't Popstar?"

Meta Knight's eyes flickered over to the blue hedgehog, and he nodded, confirming Sonic's question. "Yes. I was born on another planet, and my parents were also Star Warriors, like both Kirby and I. However, they and my home planet are now deceased." The knight's voice dropped to a low murmur at the last part.

Sonic's eyes widened in horror. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know," he quickly apologized, bowing his head, ears flattening against his skull, while Dedede stood quietly, silently mourning the knight's loss. Even Shadow looked at Meta Knight with a sympathetic glance.

Meta Knight gave Sonic a reasurring eye smile. Wrapping his cape around himself tighter, Kirby could see that the noble knight was trying to stifle his trembling, although his eyes were clouding with sorrow. "Do not apologize. I am proud that I can call them my parents, and I vow to keep the galaxy they wanted to protect safe."
