Elfilin...is my ancestor? The first user of the chaos emeralds?

Perhaps that was why Sonic was so good at using chaos, and why he was able to use Chaos Control even with a fake chaos emerald, back when he was on Earth and Eggman had banished him into space. He remembered how calm and certain he had felt, as if an imaginary voice had guided him, pressing him on.

Then he remembered the Eggman file, and the strange, mysterious energy Kintobor had called Streak. "Kintobor mentioned I had two energies inside of me," Sonic told Scar Kirby once he found his voice, although it was a little shaky with emotion. "One was chaos, but the other one he wasn't sure. Is... Is that energy...?"

Scar Kirby dipped his head. "The power that binds the chaos emeralds with the Master Emerald. Like your friend Knuckles and how he guards the Master Emerald, Elfilin used to protect the chaos emeralds from harm," he murmured.

Sonic looked at his hands, suddenly aware of the responsibility weighing on his shoulders. He hadn't known that his mysterious power, Streak, had been so crucial and important to defeating Zero.

"You said earlier that I'm the key to retrieving the Crystal, right? But if my chaos is too corrupted..." Sonic furrowed his brow, thinking. "How will we use it against Zero? Is there a way to reverse the corruption?"

"Not exactly," Scar Kirby answered, to Sonic's disappointment. He made sure not to let it show on his face, but Scar Kirby seemed to sense it anyway, for he gave Sonic a kind, reassuring smile. "What we can do, however, is make sure your chaos energy is as powerful as possible, and forcibly turn the Master Emerald back into the Crystal."

Sonic's eyes widened with realization. "That's why you want me to train my chaos powers, then." The marked puffball nodded.

"Chaos is a dangerous power, but a reliable one. Even Zero knows to be cautious around it."

And so Sonic trained, with Scar Kirby supervising him, giving him occasional advice every now and then. Eventually, Sonic learned how to infuse Chaos Control with some of his attacks, like Chaos Spear, shooting a beam of violet light from his palm and watching it disappear, only for it to reappear a moment later and strike a nearby tree down with a deafening explosion. If it had been against a real enemy, they would never see it coming.

Although Scar Kirby looked a little sad that he was destroying the landscape, it was ultimately shoved aside by excitement. "Wow! That was amazing, Sonic!" He was hopping up and down, a broad smile on his lips.

Sonic grinned. "I think I've got another one." Closing his eyes, he created another Chaos Spear. But instead of just one, he mirrored the Chaos Spear, duplicating it. It took most of his concentration, and he found that it was harder than infusing it with Chaos Control, but he managed to create at least two new Chaos Spears. He flung them into the air, enjoying how they weaved with the wind, catching onto the sunlight. At last, they collided with one another, sending down a shower of purple sparks.

Scar Kirby continued to watch carefully from afar, making sure he wasn't in Sonic's way as he played with chaos. It was nice to know he could preform however he liked, without the worry of hurting anyone. It was true, what Scar Kirby had pointed out earlier: Chaos was dangerous, and was something that couldn't be displayed easily due to its destructive capabilities.

He wasn't sure how much time had passed, as the sun remained in the same position in the sky, beaming down at the pair with a warm smile through the crooked arms of the trees, but he assumed he'd been training for quite some time when from the corner of his eye, he saw Scar Kirby stiffen with alarm, his gaze distracted. Sonic paused, wondering what he was so riled about.
