A Shooting Star ~Kirby and Sonic crossover~

Chapter 22: Doubts

Kirby was oblivious to the world around him as he tussled with the grass, his eyes lighting up with playful glee. Right now, he was going to enjoy himself, and no one would get in his way.

Kirby fondled a jutting plant that had uprooted itself from the ground, it's leaves a beautiful pink at the top which faded to a fond green at the bottom. Kirby made a soft cooing noise, curious on what the plant could do.

After all, Kirby knew that some plants and herbs were used to heal the sick.

He knew this by experience.

One day when Kirby had gone to get groceries with Tuff, Fololo, and Falala, he had managed to inhale a Noddy (who was one of NME's many monsters which made the victim receive bad dreams about past events) and was cursed to sleep for a hundred years. He was saved from the century worth slumber when Tuff, Tiff, Meta Knight, Fololo, and Falala had treated him to the Pukey Flower, a flower that used it's pollen to wake up any sleeping victim. That was the very day he had also discovered a new ability: Needle.

The memory made Kirby smile fondly (even though he had been alseep the whole day and barely remembered a thing). It proved just how much his friends cherished him and loved him.

He was so lucky he landed on Popstar. Thank Nova for Dedede's strange habit of buying monsters.

Feeling the soft, little hairs on the tiny and mysterious plant, Kirby suddenly stiffened when he heard the sound of frantically flapping wings. Casting his gaze upwards while standing up, Kirby gave a serious frown, sulking.

So much for not getting disturbed.

But that all changed when he saw the exhausted form of Meta Knight just barely lifting a limp Sonic. Kirby's eyes widened in fear and concern as he began to ponder if Sonic was really... really...

Shadow had also noticed Meta Knight and Sonic, for he gave a worried grunt, warning the others about the Star Warrior and mobian. When they spotted the two hovering in the air, they all gave off different reactions: Tiff and Tuff shared looks of frozen anxiety, Dedede gave a large gulp of nervousness, Amy a loud wail of shock, Knuckles' eyes shrunk in terror, and Shadow bit his lip, his little canines poking underneath his mouth, causing a little streak of blood to leak from his clean and elegant muzzle.

Tails looked just as pale as Sonic as he spun his two tails to propel himself to the air, his legs trembling fearfully as he exchanged a few whispered words with Meta Knight.

Meta Knight's eyes suddenly flashed into a glassy grey, shaking his head sadly as Tails stared at him with what Kirby sensed was shock.

Then he felt a massive wave of sadness and fear enough to make even Nightmare flinch coming from the mobian fox.

"No!" Tails cried, jolting the others with terror. His heart pounding with horror, Kirby couldn't tell which emotion belonged to who as he began to feel lightheaded with confusion. He started to sway, becoming dizzy as he fell forwards, finding himself in Tiff's protective hold.

However, this time her hug was different. Instead of the reassuring and crushing embrace she usually gave him, this time Tiff seemed to be... uncertain. Frightened. Kirby gave a quiet 'poyo', hoping to soothe his trembling friend.

Tails harshly grabbed Sonic from Meta Knight's grasp and flew towards the mobians and Dreamlanders as they began to cluster nervously around the fox and hedgehog, hoping that the blue blur was alright. Kirby gave out a silent whine of terror when he saw how Sonic looked closer up.

Sonic was even more pale and lifeless. He wasn't breathing or stirring.

Not even the wind seemed to be moving.
