Sonic froze, staring at the little puffball that lay unconscious before him. What kind of mobian was it? Was it even a mobian? If so, it had a strange physique for one.
Well, one thing was for certain: this wasn't something you would see everyday.
"Where the hell is my gun?" Shadow snarled harshly, regaining from his shock as he pushed the puffball roughly with a hand. "Where did it go?"
"Hey!" Sonic shouted sharply, scooping up the pink puffball protectively. "It couldn't have been one of your guns; the little guy's unconscious!" Sonic had a soft spot for little critters and animals, and anyone who knew him would know that little bit of information. Shadow looked doubtfully at Sonic before shifting his gaze towards the marshmallow in his arms.
"What if it's some sort of alien lifeform?" Shadow asked, glaring at the pink body. "It could be dangerous!"
Sonic scoffed, turning over the puffball to see it's face and body more clearly. It had tiny stubs for arms, with bigger, rosy feet. It had a tiny, gaping mouth as it quietly slept, eyes closed in relaxation.
"Really?" Sonic scoffed, pointing to the puffball. "It's no different from a chao, Shadow. I mean, look at it! I'm pretty sure it isn't going to turn into some five-hundred-million-year-old-hyper-death-black-hole-monster-alien-god."
Shadow wrinkled his muzzle is disdain before looking down at the glowing star that had been beside the marshmallow. "I wonder what this is?" he muttered, half to himself.
"Oh, I don't know, maybe it's a star?" Sonic replied dryly, rolling his eyes.
Shadow huffed in annoyance. "I know that. But something doesn't feel right about it."
But at that, Sonic's eyes widened, and they hardened as he put on his thinking cap. What Shadow said made him rethink his words.
That was when it struck.
"No, something isn't right. Stars aren't pointed like this one, much less have five tips, but instead are an almost spherical, or just spherical in shape. Plus, stars aren't solid, but instead are made from gas."
Sonic pointed to the star, leaning down to pick it up as it glowed blue, then yellow, still carrying the pink creature in one arm. "This is a five pointed star. What most people like to draw for stars, which is incorrect. So this must be some sort of device!"
Shadow straightened, frowning, his gaze thoughtful. He held out his hand expectantly.
"Give me the star."
Sonic obeyed, placing the glowing star into Shadow's outstretched hand. Shadow took it, examining it carefully as he caressed it softly for a few (yet long) seconds.
Shadow frowned, wrapping his fingers around the star.
"It's warm," was all he said.
"That's all?" Sonic asked, baffled. "You hold it for at least ten seconds, and the most you can say is that 'its warm'?"
Shadow shot Sonic an irritated look. "Well, it's not exactly easy to tell what it's true purpose is," he defended himself, handing the star back to Sonic, who took it back, carefully feeling it.
The star was smooth underneath his hand, and as Shadow said, it was indeed warm. But nothing else could be really said about it.
But it has to be some sort of secret device, Sonic argued, it has to be!
Just then, the puffball in Sonic's arm stirred. Sonic yelled in surprise, causing him to drop the star, which Shadow thankfully caught before it hit the ground.
