Chapter 2
Zero's POV
Kaname and I where walking down the hall, talking about nothing in particular, when, as always Kaname walked into someone. Worst of all it was a girl and he laughed about it.
Kaname had been my friend for a while, ever since I lost my Dad, he's really been the only male figure in my life. "Sorry miss," Kaname said with a smile, bending over and holding out his hand to help her up. "Its okay, don't worry about it and by the way its Emma" she said with a smile of her own. Accepting his offer and pulled herself up.
Now that she was off the ground, I could see her better and took in her features. Dark brown, silky hair with blue eyes that were like stars sparkling in the night time sky. She was beautiful, beauty like her's surely couldn't be possible.
"Well, I better get going. Need to rest before class," she said before hurrying away. We watched her leave.
"Be careful around her, she seems like the kind of person that will catch on quickly," I stated as she turned the corner. Kaname nodded in agreement.
--Time Skip--
The moon was looming over the school, high in the sky. I was walking around the grounds, taking a usual night time stroll. I reached a point where the trees faced directly towards the moon when it was at its highest. There I saw Emma, leaning against the trunk of one of the trees, staring at the black sky. I walked over to her and stood beside her.
"Are you thinking of your family?" I asked she didn't look at me and just looked forward "yeah, i miss them," she said sadly. Never breaking eye contact with the sky to look at me.
It seemed like hours bur really it was just minutes that we talked. Emma told me about her home life and how during spring, she would help orphan calves find new mothers. There wasn't much to tell her about my life. I could have easily talked to her for days, there never seemed to be shortage of conversation.
Our conversation was broken when Kaname's voice filled my head. "Zero, the headmaster wants to talk to you," he seemed a little worried and t be honest, so was I. I wondered why the headmaster wanted to talk to me, especially this late at night. Was it wrong to talk to a human at night alone?
I thanked Kaname and said goodbye to Emma before making my way to the Head Masters office. I knocked on the door and I got a 'come in' as a response. I opened the door and sat down in front of him.
"Zero, I'm afraid i have some bad news, your mother died last night" he said.
My eyes filled with tears, i ran out of the office and into my bedroom. I slammed my fist on the wall and cried.
I turned around and slid down the wall "Mum, I need you. I still don't know how to control myself. Please... Come back," i said aloud. Tears ran down my face, another parent, gone. I have no one.
A few minutes later Kaname walked into the room, he saw the dint where i punched the wall. He could always tell when I was sad, even if it wasn't noticeable.
"Zero, what's wrong" Kaname said his eyes never leaving my face "my mum s- she...died last night" i said stuttering. Kaname's face instantly faded and his expression changed to sadness.
He knew how I felt. He hadn't really lost a parent but he could imagine. Thing is though, no matter how many times you say you understand something like that, you never can. Unless you have experienced it yourself.
