The full glass of alcholic liquid was placed in front of you "enjoy" Diluc grunted, his tone flat but you knew he meant it in kindness.
You smiled, accepting the drink happily. It had been a few days since your return to Mondstadt, Katheryne was surprised that upon your return you accepted every commission that had built up during your absence that hadn't been dealt with by any other guild member yet.
When she asked if you didn't want to rest first you had simply shrugged and said that you enjoyed helping the people in anyway you could, and although that was true, the real reason you took on so many upon your return was to keep your mind busy.
Almost every waking hour had been consumed doing all manner of tasks, ranging from finding valberries and lost cats, to getting rid of slimes that were plaguing peoples vegetable patches.
You had had to get a new sword though. Luckily, Wagner had a sword that had been made for someone else who never showed to collect it and agreed to loan it to you until you could afford a new one. It was a good sword, but you couldnt help but notice that it just wasnt quite the same as the one you left behind.
Kaeya joined you at the tavern, much to Dilucs visible annoyance as Kaeya flashed him a grin as a sign for a drink.
"Kaeya" you greeted with a smile "I haven't seen you in a while"
He smirked, his one visible blue eye narrowing towards you "I've seen plenty of you since your return"
"Oh? have you been slacking off again?"
He scoffed "please, I have very important work to attend to, I dont have the luxuray of 'slacking off'" he said with a dismissive wave of his hand "and it would seem like you haven't been slacking off since your return either"
You nodded "a lot of the commissions have built up, the guild are busy enough as it is and they need my help. I'm only showing how grateful I am for the people of mondstadt to have taken me in in the way they have"
"So, whats his name?"
You turned to look at Kaeya with a raised brow, the male next to you watching you while his head rested in the palm of his hand "what are you talking about?"
"Well, I could pretend to believe that the reason you have been accepting upwards of twenty requests a day is because you want to prove your gratitude, but I could also remind you that you can't bullshit me" he tapped your nose "you're using work as a distraction"
"Liyue was . . hectic, much different from here" you shrugged "but I don't see how my amount of accepted requests equates to some guy"
Kaeya just smirked at you "so . . his name?"
"Theres no guy!" you groaned, rubbing your hand across your face "it was just . . some dumb flirting that I took the wrong way" you admitted "he told me that most couples start out hating each other, but thats not true, is it?" you looked to Kaeya.
"Isn't it?"
You sighed deeply "Kaeya, you're really not helping. There is no guy, there was just a misunderstanding. He never liked me, and I- . . I don't like him"
Kaeya was silent, and as you turned to look at him you watched as he finished his drink before setting the empty glass down "you'll feel better when you stop telling yourself that" you went to protest but he held his hand up, stopping you "I may have one eye covered but I'm not blind" he placed enough mora on the table to cover both his drink and yours.
He stood from his seat, taking a minute to stretch before he spoke once more "we've been receiving some reports of a strange happening near the forest. Come with me tomorrow" without letting you reply, he left the tavern.
