"Sleep well?" Kaeya greeted as you approached the entrance where he was waiting.
You nodded "I got enough rest to check out these reports. So, what are we looking at?"
"As of last week we started recieving a flood of reports surrounding some odd monster behaviours around the city limits, as well as some specific weird happenings in the woods. A few of the adventurers from the guild reported it" he informed as the two of you made your way out of the city "I also recieved a report of a stranger being sighted near the bridge last night, but nothing appears to have come of it"
"A stranger?"
"Yeah. Last night during the knight changes, one of them noticed someone, or what they thought was someone, walking towards the bridge, but that was it" he shrugged "never saw the person again, nobody entered the city and nobody reportedly left during the first knights watch for it to have been a returning Mondstadt resident"
You hummed in thought "do you think its connected to the monster reports?"
Kaeya shook his head "doubt it. If it happens again Ill get Outrider Amber to scout it out, but for now, lets focus on investigating the area"
"Yes, sir" you chuckled, giving a playful salute.
The two of you searched through the forest, not straying too far from each other as you looked for . . anything weird. You weren't exactly sure what that meant, but surely you'd know it when you saw it, right?
After a days work of searching you had found very little of note, except for a few strange markings on trees, definte signs of monster activity and a few, large, craters amoung the trees. Kaeya decided that you had both done enough for the day, noting that if you followed the monster tracks you would be sure to find monsters and that they were far enough from the city to not be worth clearing out until tomorrow.
You agreed it may be safer to leave them until tomorrow too, given that the light was fading from the sky fast. Kaeya invited you to join him for a drink, as he usually did when you accompanied him on missions. It was comforting that you had somewhat of a routine here in Mondstadt. Even if that routine was simply joining someone for a drink now and then.
You breifly departed so you could wash up and grab some mora before agreeing to meet Kaeya in the tarvern.
You made your way into your room, seeing that your sword was still sitting on the bed where you had left it this morning. You removed the borrowed one, placing it down as you looked at your sword. You should start taking it with you again since it was here. And perhaps to would be rude not to take it with you since someone, still assumably Venti, had gone through the trouble of delivering it to you.
As you were about to leave your room again after grabbing your mora pouch something caught your eye. You rocked on your heels as you stared at the object from across the room. Had you put that there?
On your bedside table sat a single windwheel aster flower. You took a quick anxious glance around your room, it was definitely empty with no signs of entry, and nothing had been taken or disturbed. But that definitely wasn't there before.
You wandered over to it, picked it up gingerly between your fingers. It was fresh, its light fragrance still emitting from it as the gentle breeze from your open window caused the petals to rotate slowly.
You frowned as you placed it back on the table, shaking your head. You must have picked it at some point and just forgot, with that vague explaination on your mind, you spared no further thought the the mystery flower and left to meet up with Kaeya.
The next morning you met with Kaeya once again as planned but this time you were both prepared for a fight. You weren't sure what you would find as among the tracks you found yesterday was more than just hillichurl footprints, but whatever it was, you were ready to check it out.
