AN - Im back! this chapter got cut short as I needed a break before writing where we're going aha. Ive also been getting a new genshin fic ready to publish here soon, but dont worry this one wont be coming to an end for a while yet!. I have a nice (well i think its nice) lil plan for this one so dont worry about any sudden 'discontinued' or 'on a break' notes popping up for this fic, I hope you stick around for whenever we reach the end here and I hope you enjoy it. Thank you for your patience between updates, I appreciate it~

You jogged over to meet the small group waiting on the bridge outside the city. Kaeya greeting you with a smile as he waved you to join them. Diluc, Noelle and Amber, who were gathered with Kaeya each gave you a polite hello as you joined them.
Kaeya briefly explained that after the events of yesterday with the monsters appearing to be getting larger and stronger, and going by that theory, whatever you came across next was going to be bigger than the 'mega mitachurls', Kaeya thought it was a good idea to call in reinforcements.
With everyone briefed about the recent events you and Kaeya had faced and ready to face whatever you may find today you all set out to start the mission.
While walking Amber told you that they were still receiving reports of the strange monster activity that you were currently investigating, which was odd as you would think that after taking down the two groups of them the reports may have slowed, even for a day, but according to Amber the reports were coming in as though you had never been involved.
"Have you had any ideas on what could be causing this yet?" you asked as you walked next to Kaeya.
He shrugged "I am still looking into possibilities, unfortunately, your fatui fling is one possible cause"
"Him specifically, or the fatui?"
"Both" Kaeya mused "though, I doubt he is acting alone if he is responsible, and he seems . . close to you, close enough that I doubt he would continue putting you in danger"
You scoffed "I wouldn't put it passed him"
"Oh? did something happen last night?" a grin stretched over his features, you gave his side a swift elbowing, the male chuckling at your action "I'm kidding, my timing is impeccable of course nothing happened"
You debated elbowing him again but chose to just shake your head and sigh "you;re the one who talked me into this"
"Please, you give me too much credit, all I did was tell you to stop lying to yourself"
"Would there be any gain in lying to me, you think?" you asked, throwing the question at him suddenly, deciding Kaeya would be honest with you if he had a similar thought.
He hummed "I don't think you need to worry" his hand suddenly rested on your head "afterall, a broken heart is often better than one that has never allowed itself to love" he ruffled your hair as you started to bat his hand away.
"Eugh, being a philosopher doesn't suit you" you teased.
"Enough chat you two" Dilucs voice ended your conversation as the group came to a stop "we're here. What now?" as he spoke Diluc glanced to the remains from the battle that occured yesterday. The disturbed grass, snapped tree branches, ruffled bushes, and broken shield still remained as they were left from the day before. The good news was that the tracks in the area didn't appear to be new.
Kaeya wandered in a small circle around the immediete area, being watched by your small group as you all awaited what he was going to say. He stopped, tapping his finger against his chin before he spoke "lets split up. I don't sense any hostility nearby so I think we should search around for any elemental traces, or anything of note"
