Childe lay with his knees curled up to his chest, taking in short sharp breaths as though he was trying to get it under control.

"Childe?!" you briefly forgot your anger with him as you knelt by his side, gently touching his shoulder as you quickly scanned his body for any major injuries that could be causing him trouble "are you alright?"

He forced out a chuckle through a pained groan "yeah, I just overexcerted a little too much" he cracked a grin through his gritted teeth.

You turned to Kaeya who had been examining the mitachurl remains before he had joined you by Chides side "Kaeya-"

"Yeah, yeah, we'll take him back to Mondstadt" he sighed, already kneeling at the opposite side of Childe to loop his arm around Kaeyas shoulder.

You nod, taking Childes other arm, before you both pulled him to his feet. Childe groaned a little as you brought him to his feet, but his body merely seemed tired rather than he was in any serious pain, and he could barely control his feet beneath him, relying solely on you and Kaeya to keep him upright while in this state.

Was this the price the Harbingers paid for their power and status among the Fatui? surely collapsing to your feet after evey battle that required a little more of their power than normal was not worth the title? Why did Childe choose to do this to himself.

As you came within view of the cities walls, Kaeya brought you both to a stop "you'll need to take off anything that could identify you as Fatui" Kaeya informed.

Childe seemed upset by this, starting to protest "but-"

"If you want us to get you into the city under the guise of a passing wanderer who got hurt, you'll need to remove your fatui markings . . lest you want to draw trouble and scrutiny to them" Kaeya added. Childe glanced to you, he didnt want to cause you anymore trouble. He would live without his badges and fatui decor for a few hours. A small price to pay to get closer to you for the time being.

He removed his arm from around your shoulder, leaning against Kaeya as he started to remove anything that could visually link him to the fatui, albeit with great reluctance. He handed them over to Kaeya before replacing his arm over your shoulder once more while Kaeya stashed the items under a nearby bush, assuring Childe on his word as a knight that he would return for them later.

You made it past the other knights without too much suspicion, trusting Kaeyas word on Childes indenty as merely a stranger who got hurt while you happened to be around to offer Mondstadts assistance. You brought him through the city to the Cathedral.

You sat him down on one of the pew benches while Kaeya went off to find Barbara, leaving you to sit by Childes side while you waited.

"I'm not going to run off, you know" Childe muttered with a teasing tone "you can let go of me"

You looked at him, realising you were still holding lightly onto his arm that you had removed from your shoulders when you sat down "well, how can I be sure that this wasn't a ruse to get you inside the city?" you quickly excused, your fingers still gripping the fabric of his sleeve without intention of letting go.

He chuckled "I'm hardly in a state to do something. Though, if you want to keep a hold of me, holding my hand would be far more reliable"

You let go of him, scoffing as you crossed your arms over your chest and looked away from him "no thanks, I'm sure that in your state I'll be able to stab you before you can run off"

"So cold" he muttered "you've spent too much time with ponytail over there" he added, nodding his head towards Kaeya who had reppeared with the deaconess, Barbara.
