"I think you're still in love with her. Aren't you, Daniel?" Violet interrogated. Daniel just stood there, his gaze fixed to her eyes. They were full of anger and disbelief. All his secrets being called out by his own fiancé.

He knew she was right. She knew she was right. Despite wanting to move on, he just couldn't. Peggy was his everything. As Violet stared him down, he wished the floor would just swallow him whole and never spit him out. He felt horrible for betraying her, but he couldn't deny his feelings. He felt tears paint over his eyes.

"I'm sorry," He squeeked, a single tear falling. She didn't respond, she didn't need to. She simply strutted over to the table and slammed down her ring. Without looking back at him, she walked into her room, leaving Daniel alone in his own astonishment. He looked back at the door and heard Jarvis' voice. He figured he could get a ride home with them if he wasn't too late.

Glancing back at the ring, he decided to take it. He walked out the door and towards Jarvis and Peggy, who were about to get in the car. Daniel hurried his pace up until he met them. Jarvis stood next to the open door, Peggy sitting on the back seat.

"Hey, Mr Jarvis. Would you mind dropping me home? I... can't stay here tonight,"

"Of course, Chief Sousa. Are you sure you wouldn't want to stay at Mr Starks tonight? That way you can keep an eye on Miss Carter throughout the night. What do you say?" Jarvis offered.

"I...uh...Peg. What do you think?" He asked

"I think it's a great idea. Only you want to, of course," Peggy said

"Uh- Yeah I'll come," Daniel decided

"Splendid!" Jarvis exclaimed "You can sit next to Miss Carter if you wish," He said before hopping into the driver seat. Daniel sat next to Peggy, closing the door next to him.

He turned around to see Peggy and his heart ached. She was paler than usual. Her hair was a mess and her hands stained with her own blood.

As Jarvis started the car, Daniel noticed Peggy becoming significantly unstable. He slung his arm around her shoulders and pulled her closer to him, making her head lay on his shoulder.

"It's okay, Peg. You've been through a lot tonight. You did amazing," He whispered so only she could hear it. She grabbed hold of his free hand and squeezed the life out of it. Daniel ran his thumb over her hand, ignoring the pain she was causing him, not only physically.

It was a silent ride to Stark's mansion. Daniel continuously glanced down at Peggy. She was in so much pain, Daniel wished there was some way he could stop it. He would have preferred for him to fall off that platform instead of her. Sure it would have meant he could probably never walk again, but if it spared Peggy then he was willing to give his life.

"We have arrived," Jarvis declared. Peggy took a deep, shaky breath before sitting herself up, letting go of Daniel completely.

"Are you okay, Peg?" He asked.

"Not at all. Let's go, shall we," She said as Jarvis opened the door. Daniel hauled her out of the car as Jarvis went to open the front door. They walked towards the doors of the house. Suddenly, the contents of Daniel's pocket jumped out of his pocket. The ring.

"Daniel? Why do you have Violet's engagement ring?" Peggy questioned. Daniel shot down to pick up the ring and stuffed it back in his pocket

"It's nothing, Really," He said, trying to walk forward, but Peggy wasn't having any of it.

"Daniel," She pushed. His gaze shot from object to object around them, anywhere but Peggy's helpless eyes.

"Violet- uhh- broke off the engagement because she thinks I'm in love with you," Daniel reddened in the face when he realized he blurted out the last part. He messed up... big. Peggy froze and her face tinted red in the moonlight.
