Daniel was heartbroken. He couldn't think straight as he drove down the lonely street. His breathing wavered as he recounted the events of the day. All he felt was betrayal. His mind wandered from different memories.
All of Peggy...
When they first met. Her beauty struck him like a knife as he spotted her from across the room. When she first spoke to him, her voice glided through the air, flooding through Daniel's ears.
Daniel's mind drifted from his body. He didn't focus on driving. He didn't see the car speeding down the street.
He remembered her coming back into his life after months of savoring her memory. When she walked into the LA office, Daniel's world collapsed. His heart reached out to her, while his head pulled it back. He wanted nothing more than to hold her in his arms. But all he could do was bite his lip and turn back to Violet.
The car sped towards him as his mind drifted off further. The engine growled as it approached him with no avenue of retreat. Daniel still didn't notice.
The memory of the night he saw her fall onto the rebar. The panic he felt. The whole world melted away as he ran towards her, fear pumping through his veins. He thought he was going to lose her, and the thought terrified him.
The car was now bare meters away from him. The car blasted its horn, knocking Daniel out of his thoughts. His mind went blank as he tried to swerve out of the way. But he was too late.
The car slammed into him, smashing the door to ruins. Daniel crashed into the side of the car. His world slowed. The car was pushed up on its side, Daniel falling like a lifeless doll to the ground.
Pain stung everywhere. His head buzzed.
"Maybe I deserve this," He whispered. Shrieks could be heard from all around, all blended and blurred together. He could feel blood dripping down his face. He lay still, losing the strength to move. His eyes slowly closed. All he thought about was Peggy as his world turned to silence...

"Faster Mr. Jarvis!" Peggy yelled as Jarvis already sped down the road.
"Miss Carter, I have full confidence that if we go any faster, we will both die," Jarvis yelled back. The hospital crept into view, making Peggy both relieved, and nervous. She needed to see Daniel. No matter how mad he was at her. Dread was eating away at her.
"It's all my fault..." Peggy said softly.
"You can't really think that Miss Ca-"
"He got angry at me and left. If it wasn't for me, he wouldn't have left. He wouldn't have wanted to go home. He hates me-" She trailed off, her mind running faster than her mouth.
"Miss Carter. If it's any sort of comfort to you, Mr. Sousa makes his own decisions. I know you think he hates you, but that isn't true at all. You two love each other. I saw the way the chief looked at you long before you started dating. He loves you more than anything in this world. Nothing can change that. He's shocked, hurt, maybe. But he doesn't hate you, nothing you do could make him do that," He said softly, bringing a tear to Peggy's eye. She swiftly wiped it away as they pulled up in the hospital car park. (Or a pArKiNg LoT for you Americans)
Peggy shoved open the car door, running towards the door, leaving it wide open. Jarvis scampered to her side of the car to close her door before running after her. Once he stepped through the doors, Peggy was already at the front desk, talking to the receptionist.
"Daniel Sousa," Peggy said as the lady looked through the papers littered on her desk.
"What's your relation to him?" She asked the two
"I'm his girlfriend," Peggy said, extremely fast
"And I'm his butler," Jarvis said. Peggy spun and gave him a look of confusion "-of sorts,"
"Ahh yes. You'll have to wait for a bit, he's still in surgery-"
"What?" Peggy gasped, her heartbeat increasing. Too much had happened over the past day, and it was barely 2:00. "What happened to him?" She whispered, not trusting herself with anything more
"He got in a car accident, probably on the way back to his house," She said, a sad look stretching over her face. A lump formed in Peggy's throat.
"It was my fault..." She whispered, only sparking the attention of Jarvis
"You're welcome to sit in the waiting room until he's ready," She smiled, motioning to a room on the other side of the long desk. Jarvis politely smiled and nodded, grabbing a disoriented Peggy's hand, dragging her to the room. She sat next to Jarvis, her head still foggy with regret.
She heard Jarvis talking to her, but she couldn't latch onto his words. She couldn't think of anything other than Daniel. His gorgeous smile. His deep brown eyes. His golden heart...
This was going to be a long day
-------------------
"Daniel Sousa?" A young doctor announced as he stepped into the room. Jarvis' head shot up from Peggy's shoulder which he was just asleep on. Peggy stood up and scampered over to the doctor, who held the fate of her lie in his hands
"Is he alright?" Peggy asked, her sweaty hands again fiddling with one another.
"Yes, he's fine," He smiled. Peggy let out a breath she was holding as her heart raced. "But he is in a medically induced coma. We think he'll be awake within a few days,"
"Wonderful sir," Jarvis smiled
"He's in room 402," The doctor smiled, motioning down the hallway. Peggy hesitantly put one foot in front of the other, making his way down the hallway, closer and closer to Daniel. Her breaths became shaky as she neared the door. Securing her hand on the door nob, She went to open the door, but she found she couldn't. She couldn't bring herself to it
Suddenly, she felt a warm hand place on top of hers as Jarvis helped her push open the door. He gave her a small smile as he stepped back to let Peggy in first
(This smile. Holy fricky frack this little duckling)
Peggy turned her gaze to the ground, stepping into the room quietly. Once at the bed, she drew her eyes to the man laying in it.
Daniel's hair fell in front of his closed eyes. His hands limp by his sides. His pale face was covered in cuts and bruises. His arm was wrapped in a cast, the white colour matching his complexion. As he lay there, lifeless, tears silently streamed down Peggy's cheeks. She took the seat that was planted next to Daniel's bed, letting her eyes roam his still face. She slid her hand into Daniel's, desperately gripping it.
"Miss Carter?" Jarvis asked, "Would you like some time alone?"
"Yes, please. Thank you, Mr. Jarvis," She said, pain filling her words. He stepped out of the room and closed the door as quietly as he could. Peggy just stared at Daniel's frozen face, her heart sinking deeper. She felt like her emotions were controlling her more than she was controlling them.
