Misunderstanding

Team's POV

I finally submitted my assignment and felt like a free bird who could do anything on the weekend, probably sleep.  I headed to the canteen to meet Pharm and Manaow. I heard my phone beep and it was a text message from Lei. 

"I am back from my grandparents, can we meet today?", she asked over the text. 

She was visiting her sick grandpa and was supposed to be back to college today. I wanted to talk to her too. 

"I am headed to the canteen, we can meet now if you're free", I texted her.

"I am free, I will meet you by the fountain", Lei replied.

I informed Pharm that I was going to be late before heading towards the fountain. I saw Lei standing close to the fountain when I reached there. I reached behind her and boo'ed her. She jumped around in surprise and sighed. 

"You scared me", she said. I apologized and hugged her briefly. 

"How have you been? How is your grandpa's health?", I questioned

"He is doing fine, I am fine too, thanks", she answered. 

"What have you been up to?", Lei asked

"Just submitted my assignments and was gonna meet friends", I replied. 

"Team, I wanted to tell you something", Lei said as she fidgeted with her fingers. 

"Okay". I was a little confused but asked her to continue. 

"I know that I approached you first, I really like you, you are a genuine guy but..", she fumbled while speaking and seemed tense.

"You okay, Lei?" I pat her shoulder to calm her

"Actually, when I was at my grandpa's I met someone, he was there to help grandpa with his work, he kept asking me out, I didn't answer him initially but I don't know how I just fell for him and before I answered him anything I wanted to clear things with you", Lei spoke in one breath 

"I am glad you talked about it, I wanted to talk to you too, I think I like someone too", I spoke

"Is it Win?", Lei questioned and a naughty smile spread on her face

"What.. what you talking...", I stuttered and tried to come up with an excuse but... 

"How did you know?", I asked her with a sigh

"He kept flirting with you whole time and the way he looked at you spoke a lot and I know we aren't together but I still felt obliged to clear things with you. So how are things going on with him?"

"I don't know, I have been confused all time and have not decided on anything but I think I want to at least try before answering him. He said he wants just one date."

"He seems great, I think you should give him a chance and you should definitely work on your flirting a little. You suck!". Lei laughed.

"I don't and do you want to join my friends? They are waiting for me"

"Sure and you definitely suck but that makes you adorable." We moved to join others in the canteen. 

"Whatever". I rolled my eyes at her

"So where will you guys going for the date?", Lei asked

"I don't know, he has not asked me out yet"

"Why don't you ask him out?"

"Yeah? I don't know, I still am confused about everything", I told Lei 

"Does he make your heart race, make you comfortable or bring a smile to your face?", Lei questioned. 

I thought of our moments together "I guess". 

"Then you like him but are just afraid of these newfound feelings", Lei psychoanalyzed me. 

"When did you become a psychologist, Ms Engineer and what's about supporting your ex-crush with someone else?" I laughed at her explanations wrapping my hands around her as we walked. 

"Well, it would ease my guilt if I could pair you up". She feigned a guilty expression, and we both laughed, "In all seriousness, I thought I could compete with Win, but when I genuinely fell in love with someone I realised how beautiful it was to be with someone and even the thought of losing them is awful. I felt awful for thinking about snatching you from Win". I kissed her hair and hugged her

"I guess we all are confused and inexperienced about these feelings and thank you for all your advice", I said as I pulled away from the hug. 

"You are a wonderful guy Team, maybe I can help you dress up for your date. Ask the man out, surprise him". Lei jumped

"Sounds good, maybe tonight we can go out?", I asked. 

"Yeah!", she exclaimed. 

We heard Manaow call us out, we headed to their table and saw hia Win and seniors were also there. We greeted them and took the seat. I looked at hia Win and we both looked away, I made last night a little awkward for us. 

"So how did the assignment go? Could you finish?", Pharm asked eagerly waiting for my response. 

"Yes, I finished. Hia Win helped me with the revision", I replied. 

"That's great", Pharm sighed with relief. 

"Ha!", P'Pruk said while playing with his food, "I thought you were catching up with your studies"

All eyes were on hia Win and me. 

"Yes, I was and I helped Team as well, got a problem?", hia Win glared at P'Pruk. We all ate in silence, except for some chit chat and questions about Lei's grandpa. 

Win's POV

Dean, Pruk and I were headed to the canteen for lunch and I saw Pharm with Manaow, we decided to join them 

"Hey Pharm, how are you?"

"Hey P', I am fine, you? You barely come to meet me nowadays" Pharm complained

"I am fine. How about we go to movies tonight?"

"Yes", Pharm nodded enthusiastically. I ruffled his hair and then we saw Win with Lei, they were hugging each other and Team kissing her hair. I felt angry, heartbroken and sad all at the same time. I saw them approaching the table and I just wanted to leave but I could not. I just ate in silence. 

After lunch, we all headed to our classes. I had a different class from Dean in the afternoon so I walked alone towards the building and stopped as I saw Team run in front of me. He placed his hands on his knees and caught his breath before he spoke. 

"Hia, thank you so much for helping me with the assignment and about the date..."

I cut Team half way "I am glad I could help and I am sorry about the stupid deal I made. We don't have to do that. I will be heading to class now, the teacher is strict, won't let me enter if I am late". I excused myself. As much as I wanted the date, I didn't want to put Team through something he didn't want. I am confusing him when he can have a stable relation with Lei. I felt tears welled up as I realised that I could not be with Team but anything to make him happier. 

Team's POV

Everything happened so suddenly, I didn't understand what just happened. What does he mean we don't have to do it after making such a big deal and confessing his love for me. Was he over me? Was it a bad kiss last night that made him change his mind?

I was even more confused and walked towards my class and I kept thinking about it until the end of the lectures. 

Ugh! this is frustrating.
