The rat man stood in the front of the room, calling names from his clipboard as the teenagers waited for their names to be called so they can leave. Aife sat with her back straight as she glanced around the room, as did Thomas.
"Alice!" The man read out, with each name, Aife could feel her heart drop. How long until her name gets called?
"Barry." The man was beginning to take dramatic pauses after each name he chose, causing Thomas's heart to speed up as he silently prayed he wasn't called.
"Walt. Edger. Samantha."
Thomas wore a look of determination on his face as he stared ahead, "I wanna know what's through that door." His jaw was clenching as he narrowed his eyes at the entrance that the guards were standing in front of.
Aife scooted over slightly so she could reply to him, "So do it." Her voice was low as she spoke, he could feel how close she was, causing Thomas to break his gaze for a split second. His eyes flickered and met with Aife, who gave him a encouraging nod with a smirk on her face, he could see the mischievous glint in her eyes.
"What? No, we've been over this, you said they were covered up so you don't know what you saw." Newt deadpanned, causing Aife to roll her eyes at the group. She was frustrated that they weren't seeing all the signs they were, "It could've been anything in there."
"Exactly, so, they were bodies." Thomas retorted, Aife nodded in agreement with the raven headed boy.
"Aris said they bring in a new batch every night." Aife quipped, her head tilted low as she stared through her lashes.
"Who the hell is Aris?" Minho spoke, his eyebrows pulled together with a confused expression painted on his face. Janson continued to call names, but the gladers were too caught up in their conversation to even notice.
Aife pointed to the white skinned boy who sat with his hoodie up while he inspected an apple, he sat alone, as always.
Minho pursed his lips at the sight of the boy and turned to Aife, "Welp, i'm sold." He deadpanned.
"And last but not least, David. Thank you for your attention, enjoy the rest of you're evening." Janson announced as he held his arms out, he guided the chosen children to the door that remained closed and walked through, the guard swiped a card against the scanner, allowing him to do so.
