❝ Where did my family go? ❞
__________________________The hard wood floor was extremely uncomfortable, and Aife could feel her eyebrows furrow together as she struggled to find an acceptable position to help the ache in her back. Of course, it was nothing she hadn't felt before. The girl could hear the heavy breathing of Axel, who was on the other side of Newt, who was next to her.
She didn't know why, but around him, she felt safe. It was nice to know that she wasn't alone, even though she had the gladers, she had a real biologically related brother. Which made everything a tiny bit better.
Though, she never spoke of it, Aife always wondered if she had living family. Or if they had died off, and forgot to look for her. She hoped it was the first option.
The girl had fully given up on sleeping, she grunted as she sat up, glancing around at her friends, who half of them, were also restless. She made eye contact with Minho, who tilted his head, silently asking her if she was okay. She gave a small nod.
Her eyes then traveled to Teresa, who was resting peacefully, her chest rising and falling. Her eyelids were shut over her bright blue eyes, and her mouth was slightly agape. Aife didn't know why she despised her so much, but she couldn't exactly fight the hatred.
If it's there, then it's there.
In the glade, Aife didn't mind the girl. But now? She did.
Aife stiffened when she heard a shuffle come from her left side, it was Newt. The boy arched his back upward in discomfort as he rubbed his fist into his eyelid like a child. He inhaled a sharp breath as he propped himself onto his elbows, glancing around the dark, eerie room. Aife directed her gaze onto him, the corner of her lip tugging slightly in the fact that at least someone was able to get sleep.
"Hey," The boy whispered. He gave her a lazy smile, and his voice was raspy. He could see the outline of her silhouette, the way the moon light shone through the window, and projected the slightest light onto her face.
"Hey," Was all the girl responded. She didn't exactly know what to say. There wasn't much to converse about, anyways.
After a beat, Aife spoke again.
"Go back to sleep, you need it." The Red Queen simply ordered, her voice was still in a whisper, but it was stern. At this point, Minho was beginning to doze off.
"Are you sure? Aife, you need to get some rest too. You've done so much for us, and-" Newt began, but Aife cut him off before he could continue further with his speech.
