Jay checked the clock and got a little concerned to see 5:00 PM. Khun Tan's been gone for some time now.But as if on cue-
"Is Jay awake?"
"Yes, Khun Tan,"
Khun C gets to the kitchen first before they were able to compose themselves.
"What's this about?"
They all stay still, stopping their activities from a moment ago.
'Why is Khun Tan here in the staff's quarters?'- they all thought.
Jay looks up and sees their boss leaning on the sole post in between the kitchen from the main room.
They were supposed to be making dinner for their bosses but Jay was making them play a game. Like a little get to know each other game, hence the commotion. They were chatting and laughing away but they weren't making that much noise. Well, not loud enough to be scolded anyway.
But then they forgot they were supposed to be starting on cooking. So they pretended to be doing something productive.
So what Khun Tan said next surprised them, especially Jay.
"May I join you?" Khun C asks. He kicks the post and springs his body off the concrete.
It's that moment where everything just seems to slow down. And every little thing goes into great detail, in highlight, in vivid clarity
Jay was never one for dreams and fantasies, but everything at this moment, how Khun C looks with his hair down and unkempt, black button shirt, with the two top buttons open, with his off-white linen pants making him look relaxed but still decent and classy.
And those moments in Anime where the 'handsome' character has a halo or sparkles behind them? Khun C's version of it, is him contrasting beautifully on a slab of concrete.
Well, it isn't exactly fantasy. It's happening now, right now, but it doesn't feel any different.
The place must have played a big part in it. Whole house redolent from the sea breeze. The high sun reaching places inside the house that makes everything natural and aesthetic.
And the 'quiet' he feels in the water, in the island, in the people, and even with, with- Khun Tan.
And he's not used to it. He's been with him for so long. For so long, but why,
What suddenly changed? What made everything different?
But he smiles nonetheless, he waves his hand to let Khun Tan in, in the little bubble he created, and Khun Tan went in with the most graceful ease.
He did it so effortlessly, with so much power and command that Jay reminded himself to breathe.
'Breathe, Jay. Breathe. Goddamnit.'
And he watches the older man walk to them, to him, taking a seat by the dining table, right beside his.
And Jay's not sure he can handle that short distance right now. So he stands up and nonchalantly goes to the dish rack to take a plate.
He takes plates for Khun C and brings out the food he made for him.
"It's not hot but they're not leftovers, Khun Tan," Jay says.
He puts it in front of Khun C and walks away to take a seat on the kitchen island.
"I thought you were bringing Khun Linda over for lunch so I made you both something," Jay adds.
