The next morning, Jay wakes up earlier, for the first time in the entire trip in Railay. He usually did; he's still wondering why it changed in the first place. He must've been exhausted from their back-to-back meetings that previous week. But he's back at it again. The week went by quickly. They arrived Saturday night, and it's now next Saturday morning. He contemplated leaving on his own last night. Sneak out when everyone is asleep, Google how to get off the island by himself, or ask the locals. His Thai is good enough to get around; he was that desperate.
For their last night on the island, his employer once again insisted they sleep in the same bed. He, of course, opposed vehemently.
But the elder wouldn't take no for an answer. He threatened to have the room locked again. He knows he doesn't mean any harm, but why's he so insistent on sleeping on the same bed anyway?
But he thought that if the room was locked, he wouldn't be able to sneak out. And he's shocked at why he only thought of it now.
He finally agreed; it's their last night there anyway. Tomorrow morning, everything will be back to normal. The elder goes back to being his employer of 15 years, he's back to being the competent secretary and assistant that he trained so hard to be.
Tomorrow, he'll be back to being the person who knows the elder longer than anyone else and not being able to do anything about it.
Tomorrow, he'll meet Neo, tell him everything, and employ his help.
Tomorrow, he'll start working on getting his life together and building the life he always wanted. Well, the second life he always wanted. The first one is impossible, and honestly, he can't understand why, for the life of him, he held on so tightly in the first place.
Tomorrow, he'll take the day off and fly to London to see that house.
Tomorrow, everything that happened here will all be a distant memory. A dream.
Tomorrow, he's waking up.
He wakes up to the elder facing him, still in deep slumber and looking so peaceful and younger and surreal, and Jay knows for sure that that morning in the yacht, where he woke up in the elder's arms, his breath warm, and humid on his neck was an elaborate dream meant to torture him.
But it was a soft torture that bled through his desires, and at least, even just once in his life, bled to a lifelike dream.
He looks at the elder's face for another heartbeat and gathers his resolve to sit up and leave the bed. In the corner, he finds luggage empty but ready for them to pack.
He opens the modular closet he saw the first day and tries the other parts of the wall to see if there are any other modular closets he didn't know. He found another one, but it was full of Khun Tan's clothes. They're all similar to his, just in the elder's size. They're all identical pieces, just in different sizes. He finds that very odd but shrugs and packs the elder's clothes in an empty luggage.
Folding everything neatly, the luggage was only half full. He vaguely remembers it felt full. It wasn't heavy but nowhere this light. He packs 'his clothes' in his luggage, the ones that are identical to Khun Tan's but in his size.
He looks around the room, looking for things that he needs to pack, and is satisfied to find that there doesn't seem to be anything left. He left two sets of clothes for them to change into for the day. Making sure they were not identical, and brought his clothes with him in the bathroom.
After his shower, he finds the elder awake and confused.
"What time is it?" Khun Tan asks.
"It's 5:50 AM, Khun Tan. It's still early. Go back to sleep," Jay answers.
