Jay

That wasn't a right approach. Jay just made her fear him more.

"Jay, are you listening to me?" His mother snaps her fingers in front of him.

"Yeah sorry," it was Friday. And he had to go in two hours to pick Naomi up.

"Jay, stop zoning out," his mother sighed. "So who you going to fair with?"

"What?" How did she know?

"I saw the tickets," Jay sighed sitting up and stretching. "Well?"

"Do I have to tell you?" His mother crossed her arms. "I'm taking Naomi." Her expression changed.

"Oh, that's wonderful!" She all but smiled brightly. "Don't forget to stop by at my stable."

"We won't mom," why was she happy, that he was taking Naomi. Did mother like her? "Why you so happy?"

"Duh, Naomi is a wonderful girl, better than Tessa," She wrinkles her nose at the mention of Tessa. "Can't wait to tell your father."

This little news made her happy. Jay chuckled.

He spends two hours at his parent's house. Just hanging out and helping his mother with some baking. She was going to sell pastries at the fair.

"Alright mom, have to go pick her up," he kissed his mother cheek.

"Alright, better bring her over, I met her before, but I want to get to know her better," his mother had this wicked smile.

"Alright," Jay waved and left.

On his way there. He hopes she'll go willingly. His temper isn't right. He can't control it. But he's trying to. When he got there, students were getting out. He parked and went toward the entrance, waiting for her. He leaned against the rail. A few students from last year recognized him. They said hi to him and a few other words. Then she came out a few minutes later, with that boy. Curse him. She saw him and turned around to speak to the boy. Jay doesn't know his name. But he's going to find out.

The guy turned to him, and he looked mad. Jay smiled at him waving. The guy flips him off. He hugged Naomi; he said something to her, Jay couldn't tell what. He left. Naomi walked over to him. She looked scared and nervous.

"Hey," Jay smiled. "Come on."

She nodded and followed him to his car. Some students watch them as if asking what's going on. They can be noisy. Jay now notices how annoying that was.

As he drove, he kept glancing at her. She was looking out the window, chewing on her nails. He reached over, as he stops at a red light and pulls her hand away.

"Stop chewing on your nails," he looks at her nails. He could see her the skin. And he saw a small white line on her wrist. She pulls her hand away.

"Sorry," she said.

What was that white line? Jay wondered. He ignores it for now. There was traffic, so it took them an hour to get there.

"Here," he grabbed her hand and lifted her sleeve up. Just as he did, she pulled away. "I'm going to put the bracelet on you." She looked down. Extended her hand again and he clips it on. They walked toward the entrance showing it to the ticket person. "So where you want to go first?"

"I don't know," she looks around. Her eyes held this exciting glimpse. Jay smiled.

They walked around, not saying much. Jay notice she kept staring at the merry-go-round. He grabs her hand and led her there.

They showed their bracelet and got on. Naomi hesitated. So Jay lifted her up to one of the horses it was a white one with pink hearts. Jay climbed behind her holding her steady. When he lifted her up, he heard her wince. The man started the ride. As it went in circles, Jay pays close attention to Naomi. He saw her smile. A brief smile. After that ride. They went on a few more. Than Jay heard her stomach growl. She denied being hungry like before. But he won't believe her he headed to the food court she follows behind.

Once in the food court. He orders a few things. Such a pizza, corn dog, hot dog, and fries. Some nachos since he doesn't know what she likes. Sitting on a table, he set them down.

"Not sure what you like," Jay said. "Pick anything." She reached for the pizza. "That's all?" She nodded. "Alright." He won't force her to eat anything else.

While they ate, Tessa and her friends stopped by, of course; she'll be here.

"Jay," Tessa sat next to him. "Baby, let's just forget what happened, and start all over, yes?"

"No, it's over Tessa," Jay said. He looked at Naomi. She looked down. Her food was untouched. "Can you leave, please?"

"Why?" Tessa looked at Naomi. "Oh I see, you rather be with this fat bitch than with me. I mean what do you see in her. She's nothing but a weakling."

"Tessa, I'm warning you now, leave or else?" Jay warned. He isn't afraid to hit a girl. Jay has done it before.

"Fine," Tessa got up and walked away with her friends.

"Don't listen to her," Jay said. "And eat."

He heard Naomi sniffle. He didn't know how to comfort her. He can't just hug her. He's not at Tha level of trust yet. Jay watched her eat. She finished it all.

"Here," he handed her, her drink. "Lemonade." She took it and drank. "If you finish eating, I want to take you somewhere. I promise my mother to drop by."

"Oh," she nodded.

Throwing away the trash, they walk toward the pastry stand. Jay could see her mother talking to some people. When she spotted him, she waved him over.

"Jay," she kissed his cheek. She smells of sweets. "Oh, Naomi." She went to hug her. Naomi just froze, letting his mother hug her. "Oh you poor thing, it's alright I won't hurt you. Now come on sit here."

They sat down. Jay mother brought them some hot fudge with brownies.

"Oh I'm Molly, by the way, Molly McFall," Naomi shook her hand. "I hope you like; I made them, no need to pay, all free."

"Thank you," Naomi said.

"Your welcome, I spoke to your brother, he told me how much you love chocolate, with strawberries,"Jay's mother brought a plate of some other type of brownie. "They have strawberries filling."

"Oh," Jay saw Naomi smile. A real smile. Why is it, everyone can make her laugh, but him. Oh right, he keeps forgetting he made her life miserable.

"Enjoy, I'll be back," she left to tend to some customers.

Naomi grabbed one of the strawberry brownies. Jay watched her eat it. Now he knows what she likes.

"So what else do you like besides that?" Jay asked. She looks down. "I want to know you better." She looks back up, frowning. "I want to fix what I did wrong with you, that's all."

Jay hopes she'll open up to him because he wants to know everything about her. It will be one more step to getting her to trust him.
