Naomi
A year later...
"Naomi," Jared goes into her room. "Come on up."
Naomi sits up. Her hair was sticking up in all directions.
"Come on, we have to go," Naomi yawned. She got up. "Hurry up." Jared went back downstairs.
Naomi got up and went into her bathroom. It's a year later; she's a senior. Naomi won't be 18, until another summer. She had hoped things would get better. But the first few weeks of school the bullying began that drove her to take a dose of sleeping pills. She couldn't handle the harassment and beatings. Jared wasn't so, happy, coming home to find her particularly death. He had immediately called 911. After being in the hospital for a month. She was released. She didn't go to school for another month. The teachers had sent her, her homework. She was caught up with all her work. She recently went back to school two weeks ago.
And things where different. No one dare go near her. They all looked at her with guilt. She had heard they had an assembly, where some parents protested against the bullying going on. And she wasn't the only one mistreated. And now her going to the hospital because of it, send alarms. Though Naomi still feels a bit uneasy. She hasn't seen Jay or anyone that graduated last year. And she hopes she doesn't see him ever again. Her life is now going easy. She's still shy and keeps to herself.
After she was all dress up Naomi went downstairs. Her brother was waiting for her.
"Come on, will eat over there," she grabbed her bag and followed him out. She still wears a long sleeve because she has scars. And doesn't want anyone to see them. She doesn't cut anymore. But sometimes she's tempted to do it, just for the calmness it gives her.
On the way there. She felt at peace. Things are perfect. She smiles more often.
"So when we get there, you'll eat first, then you'll help me outback," her brother had gotten her a job at that restaurant, which now belongs to him. She works at the back, chopping off vegetables and fruits.
"Okay," she said.
When they got there, they were barely opening up. A few customers, where waiting outside.
They went in through the back. Once there Naomi got to work. Waiters and the cooks were there already getting everything ready. At around six they open up.
"Okay, you keep doing this, I have to tend to some paperwork," Jared said.
"Okay," she went back to chopping some berries. While she dices them, she ate even though her brother told her to eat first then cut. She was doing it at the same time.
It wasn't long before the whole restaurant was getting full. Breakfast was first. Then later on in the afternoon, they'll serve lunch, then at night dinner. It's how things go up in here.
After she was finished up, Noami helped with the dishes. When she went to pick some cups up from a table, someone bumps into her.
"Sorry," she mumbled and stepped aside. She waited for the person to move. But they didn't.
"Naomi?" She tensed gripping the cup she had in her hand. She didn't want to look up. "Hello, say something?"
The cup broke under pressure, she gasps and looks down at her hand bleeding. A piece of glass was sticking from her palm.
"Shit, here let me see," she pulled her hand away as he went to grab it. "I'm only trying to help." She looks up at him. He hasn't changed at all. Seeing him again, reopen old wounds. She shook her head and backed away. "Naomi."
"Naomi!" Her brother came out and looked at her hand. "What you do?!"
"Nothing, I barely came in," Jay argue.
Jared didn't have time to argue with him. Naomi sniffle as her brother took her out to his office.
Why is he here? Why did he come back? Couldn't he stay away from this town for a bit longer?
"What happen?" Jared asked her.
"I got scared when I saw him, and I squeeze the cup too tight," she sniffles. "I'm sorry."
"It's alright, as long as you alright," Jared pulled the piece of glass out and threw it away. He bandages her hand. "You can stay here for now."
"No, I'm fine," she stood up. "I won't let Jay bother me."
"Alright," Naomi left the office. She went back to picking up the cups and dishes from the tables. Jay, was still here, sitting by the window, with her. Why is she here, Tessa? Guess they still together. Seeing them again brings back dark memories. Hope they don't bother her. Naomi walked past them. Ignoring them, she picked the dishes from the table behind them.
"Oh my god, Naomi, what a surprise to see you," she heard Tessa. Naomi ignores her. "Hey, I'm talking to you."
"Leave her alone, Tess," Jay said.
"You're defending her," Tessa laugh. "Wow."
"Naomi, your brother calling you," a waitress said.
"Okay," Naomi carry the dishes to the kitchen. Sets then down and goes to his brother. "Jared?"
"Come," Naomi went in. "They haven't bothered you?"
"Not really," Naomi sat down, grabbing a cookie.
"Alright, anyway, you don't have any more work to do, so not sure what you want to do right now," Jared said.
"Can I go to the bookstore across the street?" Naomi asked.
"Yes, just be careful," Naomi nodded. "You have your phone?"
"Yes," Naomi stood up.
"Alright, want me to walk you there?" Jared ask.
"No, I can go on my own," Naomi smiled. She waved at him and walked out, grabbing her bag. She hangs it over her shoulder.
When she walked out, Jay and Tessa were still there. They looked at her as she stepped out. She sighed and walked across the parking lot, and to the stop light. Waiting for it to turn red. She walked across and toward the bookstore. She went in.
"Oh Naomi," Miss Teapot smiled at her. Coming around the counter, she hugged her. "How are you?"
"I'm good," Miss Teapot, knew her parents. After they died, she would always call to see how they were doing. She would sometimes spend the night at there home to watch Naomi when her brother was working late hours.
"That's good," she was there at the hospital when Naomi did what she did.
"Got any new books?" Naomi asked.
"Oh yes, plenty there out in the back," Naomi smiled. "If you need help don't hesitate to ask."
"Okay," Naomi went toward the back, where boxes of books where there. She sat down on the floor and went through them.
She read the back of the books. While she was distracted, she didn't know Jay come up behind, nor that he was watching her for at least three long minutes.
