Naomi
Why does he want to know about her? Why does he want to fix what he did wrong? This all making her confused.
"Well?" He was waiting for a response. What can't she tell him? There isn't much to say about her life.
"Um, I like books," Naomi bit down on the brownie. Usually, she wouldn't eat too many. But they were good. She didn't know Jay mother could bake. Jay's mother is sweet, and she seems to like her.
"What else?" Jay asked. "Favorite color? Animal?"
"Purple," Naomi said. "Dog and bunnies." He kept asking her questions after questions. Now he knows more about her. Naomi didn't understand why he was so interested in her life.
"Okay I'm back," Molly sat next to her. "So Naomi how are you?"
"I'm okay," she smiled.
"That's good, my son isn't giving you a hard time, if he is, you need to tell me, and I'll set him in his place," Molly looked at her son. "He knows I will." Jay looked at her. He had this threatening look.
"No, his not bothering me," Naomi said out of fear.
"Ow, hey," Jay rubbed his arm where his mother had smacked him.
"Don't give her that look," his mother glared. "It's okay Naomi; he won't give you that look, right?"
"Yes mom," Jay look away.
Naomi smiled. She was tempted to laugh but didn't.
They spend a little bit more time with Jay's mother. Then they headed off. Naomi nibble on her third brownie. They where delicious.
"Didn't mean to threaten you," Jay said. She looked up at him.
"It's fine," Naomi sighed.
"Come I'll win you something," they went into one of the came stands where you have to pop the balloon with darts. Naomi watches Jay. The first try he lost. Then the second try he won her a stuffed bunny. She took it.
They went to a few others games. It wasn't long before, Naomi phone rang. She had forgotten to call her brother answering she could hear his angry voice.
"Naomi, I thought I told you to call me," Jared said.
"Sorry, I got distracted," Naomi looked down.
"Alright, have you eaten?" Her brother always worried about her eating.
"Yes I have," Naomi said.
"Alright, is Jay treating you right, if he ain't I'll come down there," Jared said.
"No," Naomi didn't want to ruin her night. "He's treating me right."
"Good, be home before 12," Jared said.
"Okay," she hangs up.
"He didn't sound happy," Jay said.
"No," Naomi put her phone away.
"Alright come on," they went to a few more rides. Before Naomi knew it, it was past 12. Jared won't be so happy.
"It's late," Naomi said.
"So," Jay said. They walked toward his mother stand. People were heading home now. "Need help?"
"Oh Jay, no its all picked up," Molly said. "Jay, it's late, shouldn't you take her home now."
"Her being late won't be a big deal," Jay said.
"Well her brother won't be happy, now Jay, take her home," Molly gave his son a stern look.
"Alright, come on Naomi," she nodded.
"Oh wait, here," Molly hand her a bag with three small boxes in it. "Leftovers pastries."
"Thank you," Naomi said.
"Now go on," Jay led Naomi to the car. Buckling up, she held the bag in her lap.
As they drove, she became sleepy. Then she realized it; she had fallen asleep and had woken up when she felt someone carry her.
And now she heard a slight argument. "I did say before 12," that was Jared.
"We got distracted okay," and that Jay. "She was having fun."
"Yeah for once, no thanks to you," Naomi kept her eyes close. They don't know she's awake.
"You're going to remind me every time you see me, aren't you?" Jay asked.
"Yes," Jared said.
"Whatever, where do I put them?" Jay asked. So it was Jared who was carrying her. Thank god.
"On the floor, she can fix them in the morning, now out of my house," Naomi felt the softness of her bed. She rolled to her stomach and breathed in. Felt her shoes come off, and her blanket placed over her.
"Fine," she heard Jay angry footsteps and the slam of a door. She felt relief.
Her door closed. She opens her eyes. She did have fun today. But it won't last long. Pulling the blanket over her head, she went back to sleep.
In the morning her brother had left early. Leaving her breakfast done. In the fridge where the three boxes, Mrs. McFall gave her. She took one out and lefts the two others in grabbing her plate of pancakes, bacon, eggs, and sausage. She set it on the table. Took the honey and dripped some on her pancakes. Strawberry pancakes. Her brother always made her what she likes even if it's not pancakes. He still leaves strawberries out for her. Buy them each time he goes to the store. Smiling, she ate. She had her book. While she ate, she read. By the time she finished eating, she felt full. For one she didn't reject the food. She washes the dishes. Grabbing the box, she went into the living room. Turning the TV on she ate at least two to three brownies and placed the rest in the fridge.
The bell rang as she headed up the stairs to dress. She went back down and opened the door. Kay stood there.
"Hey," Kay smiled. He had a slight bruise on his left cheek.
"What happens to your cheek?" Naomi asked him.
"Just a little misunderstanding with, that asshole Jay," Kay said. "Don't worry; I busted his lip."
"Oh," Naomi let him in. He follows her upstairs into her room. Kay has been in her home few times, while Jared was here. Or sometimes when he wasn't. But either way, Jared trusted Kay.
She wonders if, Jay only got a busted lip. No, she won't worry about him.
