Amanda was really starting to believe that when it came to luck, she had absolutely none. First, she met Spencer who was too afraid to commit for whatever reason. Then she met and dated James who broke up with her for a reason that was still pretty unclear to her, which is odd since she had unknowingly cheated on him with Spencer several times and he stayed with her anyway. Then she met Evan who had died.

And as frat-boyish as Alex had seemed, he also seemed like a nice person behind the fake confidence but clearly, she was wrong. Who calls someone and then goes out and fucks some girl. Or even worse, is he married or have a girlfriend. "Hello?" The voice says again and Amanda breaks out of her reprieve to answer it as she shakes her head.

"Sorry. I must have the wrong number. I was looking for Alex," she states, getting ready to hang up before the voice stops her.

"Shit. Wait, don't hang up, please. God, Alex is going to kill me if I scare another girl off by answering his phone." Amanda frowns at the statement.

"What do you mean?"

"Well when girls call a guy and another girl answers they usually assume the worse and hang up. Honestly, you're the first girl to stay on the line to respond to my greeting."

"Right. Well if you aren't his girlfriend or wife, who are you and why do you answer his phone so much?"

"I'm Megan, his friend. We grew up together, don't worry, Alex and I bat for the same team. As for why I answer his phone, I'm his secretary, sort of. I try and get galleries to show his art. Believe me, Alex would never give a girl his number while in a relationship. He's a really nice guy."

Amanda snorts. "I've never met a nice guy who used the pick-up line that the best way to get over someone is to get under someone else but I guess I'll take your word since you seem cool," she tells her, and Megan sighs.

"I told him that makes him seem like a jackass. I can have him call you back when he gets done painting," she offers but Amanda shakes her head before realizing she can't see her and clearing her throat.

"Actually can you just have him text me? I have a busy job where I travel a lot and I can't always answer my phone. His texts are more likely to get answered," she tells her truthfully and Megan grins into the phone.

"Of course. What's your name?"

"Amanda Hotchner."

"Okay, Amanda, I'll tell him. Have a great day."

"You too," she tells her before hanging up. She looks down at her phone with a smile, glad she had been wrong and also hoping that she'll get to meet Megan who seems pretty sweet. Eventually, she leaves the bathroom and heads back to the team only to arrive at the same time as Hotch, who notices her first.

"Good, you're here. We have a case."

"But we just got back," Morgan protests, and Hotch nods.

"This one is urgent. Two teens have been kidnapped and they just found a body. We'll discuss it further on the jet," he tells them before grabbing his go-bag and heading to the elevator. The team grabs their bags before following suit quickly, wanting to finish this case as soon as possible.

______________

The case takes them three days. It was in Chula Vista, California and it turned out that the victim that had been taken and survived was the daughter of a former Irish Mafia enforcer which Amanda had recognized immediately from her old job, even though they had never met and he had no idea who Amanda Hotchner was, only knowing her by her undercover name.

The case didn't exactly go smoothly. Amanda was pissed at Spencer and the whole team could see it but it was the kind of angry where they were too scared to ask either of them out of fear of getting on Amanda's shit-list. It came to a close when Spencer narrowed the geo-profile to a high school in the area. Amanda and Spencer, who had been left at the station together as Hotch hoped they would work whatever happened out, arrived at the school first.
