Chapter 32- Exorcisms Are Real?

Amanda Hotchner and Spencer Reid were having a very heated make-out session on her couch at the mansion she had to take him to due to Lacey already moving in and bringing someone home with her, when her doorbell rang. Spencer pulled away, expecting her to get it, but she just pulled him back down onto her with a mumbled, "If we ignore them, they'll go away," that made him chuckle and kiss her again. His hand was rubbing over the waistline of her leggings when it rang once again.

She groans against his lips, not in a good way, before squirming out from under him to stomp towards the door. She swings the door open to reveal Emily Prentiss, soaked from the rain with a blank look on her face. Amanda frowns as Emily just walks right in. Normally, she would have a snide remark but right now she's too worried about her friend who isn't one to barge in. Or show up at people's houses uninvited at midnight.

"Em, are you okay?"

"Um, I just found out that a friend of mine, Matthew Benton, died. We were close growing up and my friend John just told me. He, uh, he said that Matthew's parents said it was a heart attack but leading up to his death, Matthew had told John he was worried that someone was going to kill him and that they had already killed someone else. I called Garcia to have her look into the other guy and," she pauses as if just realizing that she doesn't have a reason to be there. She glances at the sofa, barely comprehending the scrawny doctor looking at her in worry before she turns back to her friend.

"I guess that I don't really know why I'm here I just- I just want someone to tell me that I'm not crazy for investigating this. Someone that will stick with me on this case no matter what without saying I'm too close or this is too personal and I ended up here. Please, Amanda, tell me that I'm not crazy." Amanda looks at her friend in sympathy as she shakes her head.

"Of course you're not crazy, Em. Matthew was your friend and now he's dead. If one of my friends died, I would want an autopsy even without someone telling me that they thought someone was trying to kill them. There are lots of ways to make a murder look like a heart attack and if someone killed him, we'll get them, Emily. You have my word. Right now, let's head to Quantico and tell Aaron. He'll understand, I promise."

"Thank you," Emily whispers, and Amanda nods before heading up to her room to change. Once she's done, she hands her keys to Spencer, telling him to take her car so she can drive Emily and then the three of them set off. When they arrive at the federal building, Garcia greets them at the elevator making a comment about the rain as Reid heads to his desk. Amanda stays by Emily's side as the brunette was still walking around like a zombie.

Penelope confirmed that there was in fact, a second victim, and Emily's friend wasn't crazy so Amanda led her friend to her brother's office hoping that they could solve this case quickly, for Emily's sake. Aaron agreed to have the team investigate with a reminder that they couldn't actually work the case without an official invitation from the police. Emily thanked him and Amanda grinned at her while helping Aaron call the rest of the team in. Morgan was the first to arrive so Aaron sent him with Emily to the medical examiner while everyone else gathered in the conference room.

Amanda explained the two deaths, Matthew of a heart attack and Tommy V of dehydration. "There doesn't seem to be a connection between the two crimes," Rossi points out and Amy nods as Penelope rushes into the room. She reveals that the two men went to Spain recently and Spencer points out that there is a famous church there.

"Looks like there is a connection after all," Hotch states.  "JJ, come with me to talk to the Benton family and Amanda, you go with Reid and Rossi to the Valentine home." Everyone nods and heads to their respective places where they discover an uncooperative Benton family that dislikes Emily and scratch marks near the bed at both houses.
