Katara POV

I was just listening to Aang spill all his feelings out. It made me sad knowing that I put him through so much pain. I wish I could've just made it all go away so he could still be happy. But I guess I burned that bridge a long time ago. So as I continued to listen, something caught my attention. He said he loves me. Like not in past tense, that he still loves me. After he finished talking, I decided to push the envelope.

"Wait... did you say you love me still?" I asked

He blushed and stumbled to find words

"I-um-I... well, that's not what I meant" he said.

I could tell he was lying, so I pushed further.
"I can tell you're lying. Why?"

At this point, Aang decided to give up on lying.

"Fine, I still love you, I never stopped loving you, but it doesn't matter, you proved that you didn't feel the same way." He said

"Aang... I know I put you through a lot of pain... and I'm really sorry. I know that our relationship is probably far from fixable, but I still love you too. And I know you don't want a romantic relationship right now, but can we go back to being friends?" I asked

Aang looked like he was thinking for a moment.

"I guess that would be fine" he said with a small smile.

I put my hand out so we could shake hands, but he grabbed me and pulled me into a hug.

I looked at him confused after we pulled away.

"What? Friends can hug each other" he said

I shrugged.

"C'mon, let's head back to the party." I said.

We both walked inside and went to do our separate things. I went back to talking with Toph and Aang went back to talking with Azula.

Maybe this party was good after all.

Author's note

Aang and Katara are still not together yet. They will remain just friends until I see fit for their relationship to grow again. But, that doesn't mean their feelings for each other are gonna go away. So expect little moments here and there, but not full blown fluff just yet
