Mason Smith. My ex boyfriend, Mason Smith, was stood in front of me for the first time in 26 years. He had changed physically, which was obvious as it had been over two decades since I had last seen him, but despite the extremely long time it had been, he still managed to make my palms sweaty and my heart rate to shoot up. He wasn't always the nicest person to me when we dated which was the biggest reason why we had split up. But now wasn't the time to think about all that. Carrie was waiting for me to say something but my mind had blanked.

"Wait you know Mason?" She questioned innocently. My mind spun as I raked my brain for some sort of reasoning until I blurted something out.

"He's my mom's ex. They dated when I was a kid. Right Mason?" My eyes met his as I silently begged him to go along with what I had said. He slowly caught on and nodded his head.

"That's right. How is she doing these day?" He said. Just the sound of his voice caused me to clench my fists in anger.

"Pretty good. I haven't seen her in a while though." I said lightly to try and mask the emotions which where making my mind spin. I turned to Carrie. "Don't we have to get back to the house to meet the girls there so we can get ready?" I barely waited for a response before I made my way to the car and climbed into my seat. Eventually, Carrie climbed in next to me and started the car.

"I'm sorry. For acting so weird around Mason. He and... my mom didn't have a good breakup." I tried to explain in a way that wouldn't give her space to question me. She nodded.

"You don't have to explain yourself to me and you certainly don't have to apologise." And with that she drove the two of us home.

"HIT ME BABY ONE MORE TIME" Kayla and Oliva sang in unison as Carrie removed the butterfly clips from my hair. Apparently being in captivity for the past 25 years meant I had missed quite a lot of musical icons. The girls had gone crazy when they discovered that I had never heard of Britney Spears and insisted on playing her music whilst we got ready. I watched as Carrie shook her head in amusement at her friends antics before I started to touch up my makeup.

"How many people are supposed to be coming tonight?" I questioned whilst applying lip gloss.

"I invited everyone who performed tonight, but they will probably bring plus ones. So I'm not actually sure." She laughed in response. I headed to the bathroom so I could change into party outfit which consisted of a small black dress with a lace neckline and my black Dr. Martens. When I arrived back in Carries bedroom, I discovered that she had also changed but into an outfit that was completely different than mine.
