"Heejin? As in the ex of-"════ ⋆★⋆ ════
Jaemin walked behind a sulking Heejin. He chuckled, watching her drag her feet as she walked towards the table under a tree. Heejin groaned, slumping down on her side of the bench, and settled her cheek on the surface of the table.
"Sit by the window, and I'll try to sneak in snacks for you," Jaemin said, patting her head. Heejin raised her head a bit, resting her chin on the table, staring up at him.
"You will?" She asked, cheering up a bit. He chuckled, nodding his head before placing a lunch tray in front of her.
"Yes, now eat." She sat up straight and beamed at him as she thanked him. The rest of the group stood from afar, staring at Heejin as if she grew two heads.
"Is that actually our Heejinnie?" Miyoung whispered to the others, bewildered. "I haven't seen her so happy since... you know."
Donghyuck nodded in agreement, a proud smile plastered on his face. "And we all it all to Jaemin."
"It's refreshing to see her like this." Renjun smiled at the beaming Heejin.
"Hopefully, she will stay like this from now on," Jeno said, finally walking over to sit down.
"What's got her in a happy mood?" Donghyuck asked, taking a seat next to Jaemin. He stared at the humming Heejin, who swayed side-to-side as she ate.
"She got detention," Jaemin said, breaking them from their puzzled trance.
"And how is that a good thing?" Miyoung asked, finding Heejin cute.
"I told her I'd bring her snacks while she's there," Jaemin said, chucking as Heejin's eyes glimmered at the thought of food. The air around her seemed to have sparked as the smile on her face never left. Small chatter from the people around them began to pick up as people caught sight of her.
"Is that Heejin?"
"Heejin? As in the ex of-"
A girl slammed a boy's mouth shut before he could finish his sentence. His eyes widened, staring at the girl in the hood with wide eyes. Miyoung raised her eyebrow, catching sight of the small interaction of the two. Her eyes widened as she saw the face of the hooded student. She heard a gasp from beside her, finding Heejin staring at the girl as well.
"Jin, you saw and heard that too, huh?" Miyoung whispered to her. Heejin nodded, watching Seyeon run away. "How odd... why is she helping you?"
"I'm not sure..." Heejin said, trailing off. "I haven't even spoken to her at all."
"Hmm, she probably has beef with him or something," Miyoung said, shrugging it off. "Also, I saw that scene this morning."
"What scene?"
"With you and Jaemin at the dance room." Heejin craned her head at Miyoung, freezing before quickly recollecting herself.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Heejin said, taking a sip of the banana milk next to her.
"Don't act dumb with me, Lee Heejin. You know that I always go to the dance room before school."
"It was nothing! All I did was wipe his sweat," She said, mumbling the last bit.
"Yes, but you actually went into the dance room! You always avoid going there. What's going between you and Jaemin?" Miyoung whispered, glancing at Jaemin, who sat there conversing with the other guys.
"Nothing, we're merely friends. Nothing more," Heejin replied, sighing softly.
"It doesn't seem like it. You went into the dance, and you haven't gone since-"
"Miyoung... please. Can we move on?" Heejin asked, frowning as she rubbed her arm, feeling uncomfortable.
"You're the only one who hasn't..." Miyoung muttered under her breath before sighing. A pang of guilt rang through her body at the words she muttered.
"You can keep this forever, Jin. You're going to have to face speaking about him." Heejin lowered her head, knowing she was correct, but it didn't help that Jaemin reminded her so much of him.
"I know, I just need more time..." Heejin said, her gaze downcast onto her lap.
"It's okay, take your time... I'm just getting worried about you. I don't want you harming yourself over a guy who could barely give two fucks about you! You deserved to be happy too..." Miyoung stressed, staring at Heejin worriedly. She placed her hand over hers and gave it a reassuring squeeze. Heejin gave her a forced smile before straightening up as if their conversation didn't happen.
"Is she bipolar or what?" Donghyuck asked, noticing the gloomy Heejin.
"Leave her alone, Hyuck," Jeno said, taking a bite of his food before catching sight of a figure.
"Don't you have to go see your other friends or something?" Renjun said, rolling his eyes.
"I'm not friends with them anymore. I left the group." Every pair of eyes at the table fixated on Donghyuck. They stared at him as if he grew two heads. They weren't fond of Donghyuck's friends all because they were a bad influence on him, and hearing this made them proud and relieved.
"You dropped them?" Heejin asked, her mouth slightly agape. "Damn, Jeju really changed you."
Donghyuck frowned before storming off, making them dumbfounded. "Did I say something wrong?"
"Nah, he's probably on his man period again," Jeno said, shaking his head. Jaemin stared at Donghyuck's retreated figure with a clue on what upset him.
"I'll be back," Jaemin said, following after him. A chorus of farewells came from the group as he walked away.
