Get a room

──────────────

Heejin froze, reading the last message Jaemin wrote in the group chat. 'He's hurt?' A flash of worry fell upon her eyes as she reread the text message. Without a second thought, Heejin sprinted through the halls to the infirmary without a single thought in her mind. The worry she felt overpowered the sad feeling in her chest when she thought of the young girl with him. Finally, the infirmary door came into her sight, making her slow down.

She placed her hands on her knees as she caught her breath before straightening up. Heejin sighed, staring at the door of the nurse's office. Slowly, she stepped towards the door and hovered her hand over the handle.

"Aren't you going to go in?" Heejin flinched, spun around, and met Jeno's eyes.

"Yeah..." Heejin trailed off, watching as Jeno walked around her. He opened the door, then turned his head to her, gesturing for her to go in. She nodded, walking in, searching for the platinum-haired boy.

"Hey," She said as she finally spotted him. The sound of her voice made him glance at her.

He smiled, straightening his position. "Hey."

Jaemin couldn't help but feel nervous as he watched her step toward him, even if she ignored him the whole week. But there she stood, giving him a tiny smile. The awkward smile that he noticed she would give when she felt uncomfortable. Jaemin held the ice pack to his head, wincing at the sharp stinging pain he felt.

In a quick motion, Heejin placed her hand over his. "Are you okay?" She stared at him worriedly as she scanned his face.

Jaemin nodded, allowing her to hold the ice pack for him. Heejin carefully pressed the ice pack on his head, biting her lip nervously. She told herself she would avoid him. But there she was, worrying and taking care of him, breaking the promise she made with herself. Jaemin studied her troubled expression, wondering what she could be thinking. They stayed there in complete silence, contemplating whether or not to speak to each other.

Jaemin didn't mind the silence. As long as she stayed by his side, he didn't care. Words didn't matter because she spoke with her actions. He knew she wasn't avoiding him anymore because she stood there, taking care of him and worrying about him. A smile began to form on his lips as he continued to stare at her. Heejin moved her eyes onto his, staring into his eyes filled with happiness, admiration, and a hint of sadness. Her eyes trailed from his eyes to his lips. It had the smile he produced when he would gawk at her. And the very smile that drove her to the edge.

A gagging noise emitted from behind them, startling the duo. "Get a room."

In unison, they snapped their attention to Donghyuck, who stood there with the group. Everyone other than him gave the couple a teasing smile. Heejin sighed, pulling her hand down, and handed the ice pack back to Jaemin. He held it to his head, feeling disappointed. The others began to crowd around him.

"How did you hit your head?" Renjun asked the question that plagued Heejin's mind.

"I was at the dance room, practicing for the talent show, and I fell and hit my head." Jaemin shrugged, leaving out that his leg felt numb twice. Heejin bit her lip in guilt, knowing she's been avoiding practicing with him lately.

"I'm sorry," Heejin whispered, making Jaemin turn to her. "If I practiced with you, you wouldn't have gotten hurt."

"It's fine. You probably had a reason." Heejin felt even more guilty, knowing her reason was that he hugged another girl. She sighed, nodding, wanting to hide that she felt that way. Miyoung stared at Heejin worriedly.

"I hope your head heals, Jaemin." Miyoung stepped towards Heejin, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Now, if you excuse us, Heejin needs to help me with something. Sorry for leaving early!" Miyoung said, dragging out a confused Heejin, waving to the group. She pulled the girl to the back of the school and sat on the stone steps that faced the field. Heejin sat next to her, waiting for Miyoung to explain.

"Okay, what's wrong?" Heejin played dumb, shrugging as she shook her head as if she didn't understand what Miyoung meant. Miyoung sighed, turning her body to face her. "Are you avoiding the dance room because of Hyunjin?"

Heejin sighed, knowing she couldn't hide anything from her. "No. I'm avoiding Jaemin." Miyoung raised an eyebrow, waiting for her to continue. "I don't know what to do, Mi. I want to deny that I'm slowly gaining feelings for that boy, but how can I when the sight of him hugging another girl killed me inside."

Miyoung's face softened, opening her arms wide. heejin took the chance and crashed into her arms. "You can't be so hard on yourself, Jin."

"That girl could've been anyone. I've seen the way you look at each other, and you can't deny that you two have chemistry." Miyoung said, remembering the moment in the nurse's office. "You can't keep pushing the chance for you to be happy away."

"I know..." Heejin trailed off, glancing away. "I want to be happy. i honestly do, but the thought of being in love again scares me. What if it ends up like my relationship with hyunjin? How can I recover from that when I can barely recover now." She stressed out, feeling a tug at her heart. "Oh, Heejin... You've been suffering alone for so long. I'm sorry, I should've been there for you." Miyoung bawled out, tearing up at the thought of her best friend containing all her feelings.

"it's not your fault. i didn't seek help. I didn't want to burden any of you." Heejin said, tightening her hold around miyoung.

"Promise that you will talk it out with me when you're ready to?" Miyoung asked, pulling away to stare at Heejin's face.

"I promise..."
