Hey guys. So this chapter is the coffee shop scene in BAYD but from different pov's. Let me know if you want me to do a second one from someone else's but this one is from Hitch's. We sort of get the series from Ruby's pov but if you want me to do hers as well I will :). Just let me know. Thanks guys x
Hitch's pov:
I didn't even notice him standing behind her. How I missed him I do not know. But there he was, in the flesh. Bradley Baker.
At first I was sceptical. This had to be another cruel trick of Lorelei or The Count. But it wasn't. There he was. My partner, my colleague, my friend. But he didn't remember. I had to keep calm in front of Ruby and in public but it was the most heartbreaking thing I think I could ever know. Yes he was alive but he wasn't Bradley anymore. I mean I can't even imagine the Bradley I know wanting to work in a small town. He loved adventure and danger and adrenaline but this man was calm and like the quiet life. I guess eleven years can change people. Lord knows it changed me.
He looked just the same though. Those eyes. I'd know those irritatingly, innocently perfect eyes anywhere. A little older looking and his bright yellowish blonde hair was slightly darker now. He was wearing a baggy sweatshirt and a pair of jeans. It was almost like we had switched styles. When we were younger I wouldn't have been caught dead in a suit and he wore them almost every day. in truth, I still hated suits but LB told me I had to wear one to 'look more professional and butler-like'. I had forcefully told her that I was a house manager not a butler but she wouldn't budge. God how I hate them both yet love them more than anything at the same time. And no he was back. Well half back. He left his memory in the wreckage but we would fix it or die trying if we had to.
I let Ruby explain, my eyes not leaving his face. Every emotion I had ever felt towards him came flooding back. The times where I wanted to punch him. The memories of when I did. But also all the fun we had causing havoc around the corridors of Spectrum when we were young. Lord how Ward wanted to shoot out smug smiles of our faces. Bradley's in particular. Him and his perfect teeth.
When LB walked over I was a little shocked. She explained who she was and it all seemed to make sense. Why we called her Byrdie just clicked in my head. Of course it was her. It had to be.
"It's clear you have no faith in my ability to do my job Byrdie," I joked as she sat down. She smirked slightly and nudged me under the table. I suppose in order to hide her amusement from Ruby. She looked at Bradley and I could feel the tension between the two of them. It was like he already knew something had gone in between them. You could see it in his eyes that he was trying to fathom just where he knew her from. I looked over at Ruby who had never seen them both in the same room. She was looking between one and the other and almost twitching in the silence. She looked at me and we shared a knowing smile. LB picked up on this and lowered her gaze from him onto the table.
"We never found your body," she spoke, the gravel in her voice lifted almost, taking me back. "We thought it had been consumed by the flames,"
"Well did anyone look?" Asked Bradley a small smile forming on his face.
"Endlessly," she whispered and by that I knew what she meant. Neither of us left the cliff side that night. Searching and shouting in hopes that he would still be there but he wasn't.
Bradley was quiet as he could see the truth in her eyes. LB continued the mini briefing and Bradley listened intently, blinking a lot as he tried to put a memory to her face.
"And by the way," she said, turning to me. "It wasn't an accident,"
"What wasn't an accident?" I asked confused.
"The crash," she said, her voice weaker than it had been and her eyes not quite meeting mine.
"The crash was planned? Well then who killed him?" I asked, confusion and horror rising in me.
"Her," said Bradley pointing his thumb in LB's direction. I saw her eyes light up in horror,"
"How do you know?" She whimpered, fear looming. "I thought you had amnesia,"
"She told me," said Bradley, pointing at Ruby now.
"You read that in the ghost files?" I asked.
"Come again?" Said LB angrily.
"The kid broke into the ghost files," I said plainly.
"How do you know I broke into the ghost files?" Asked Ruby slowly sinking down into her chair hoping to be swallowed up.
"I found your pencil," I pulled it from my pocket.
"So why didn't you say?" Asked Ruby.
"That's what I would like to know," added LB her eyes cold as they rested on my cheek.
I turned my head to her, a spark of anger caught between the two of us like never before.
"And I'm sorta dying to know why you decided to kill Baker," I said coldly.
She sucked in a short breath. The fury in her face being replaced by a flicker of pain.As she explained what had happened, it all came back to me. The unidentifiable scratches on her cheek that night. The amount of fire there was. It all made sense.
"Byrdie why wouldn't you just tell me that?" I asked, my voice fuelled by guilt and pain.
"I couldn't do that to you Hitch. The responsibility was mine and I took it," she said calmly. "It would have been so much better for you to think it was an accident than for you to know that... I had... you know?"
I nodded. She didn't need to say it over and over.
"I killed him and I'll live with that for the rest of my life," she whispered.
"As everyone is beginning to notice, I'm not actually dead," added Bradley who was very confused at this point. I turned to him and smiled.
"Which is a miracle," I nodded.
I paused for a moment but then continued.
"Yeah coz we're kinda a mess without you man,"
He chuckled.
"No I'm serious," I continued. "When you were around I could get away with murder but now I have to be professional and do boring adult things. Like paperwork. It sucks!"
We all laughed in unison. We talked for a long while before Ruby and I had to head back to Twinford. As I got up, Bradley stood too.
"I feel like I know you man I really do," he said.
I smiled.
"Better than anyone Brad,"
He grinned and I patted his back. We stood there awkwardly.
"We're not gonna hug in public," I chuckled.
He smiled again.
"So let's just shake hands like proper grown ups that secretly hate each other, k?" I asked, jokingly.
"Sure," he shook my hand.
"Good day to you Mr Baker," I said.
"Bye Hitch," he smiled. And as we walked out of the coffee shop I turned to Ruby. She looked up at me and grinned.
"You're gonna be the death of me kid," I sighed.
She giggled and we continued on home in silence. It was only as we were about to part ways inside Greenwood House that I turned to her again.
"And kid," I called as she was already halfway across the room.
She looked back at me with raised eyebrows.
"Thank you,"Thanks for reading guys and let me know who's pov you want me to write from next. Stay safe xxx
