The atmosphere in the coloured hallways was somewhat scary to the trio as they entered that morning. LB herself had been particularly quiet recently but how could you blame her? Her father and head of Spectrum 8, James Ward, had just been killed. Both Bradley and Hitch had been giving her some space, knowing she was the type to grieve alone. But the question in everyone's mind was, what comes next? After all, Ward was not just another field agent, he was the boss and without him, they had no orders to follow. Well, that question was answered shortly by Stanley Delaware later that same day.
LB, Hitch and Bradley had just been having coffee in the cafeteria when the head of Spectrum 1 approached. His expression was stiff yet warm and calming at the same time.
"Do you mind if I have a word?" He asked LB.
She nodded silently and lead him to her office.
Bradley sighed slightly, hating to see the girl he loved most so broken. Hitch smiled sadly and patted his friends back in comfort.
"You're a lucky guy Brad ya know that," he sighed.
"How'd you mean?" Asked Bradley.
"You never knew your parents,"
Bradley chuckled slightly, confused.
"How is that a good thing?" He asked.
"You didn't have to put up with any crap parents give you," sighed Hitch.
Bradley frowned, knowing all too well what his friend meant. Let's just say the relationship Hitch shared with his parents was not a great one. They stayed quiet after that, just waiting for LB to return. After about half an hour, the small figure emerged from her office door, shaking hands with Delaware. Bradley raised his eyebrows as she came over.
"So what's the deal?" Asked Hitch.
She stayed quiet for a moment and then smiled.
"Well," she began. "We talked about dad and then about dad's job."
"Any news of who's taking over?" Asked Bradley.
"Well he said that they had two options, one was Grayson," she smiled.
"And the other?"
"Me," she sighed, still surprised. "They asked Grayson this morning and he said he was getting too old for that kind of responsibility," she laughed at that one.
"Which means," grinned Hitch, so exited at the news he was hearing.
"Which means that aim the new head of Spectrum 8," she scoffed, hardly believing what she was saying. Hitch's smile only grew as he hugged her tightly. Bradley, wide eyed and grinning like a Cheshire Cat, scooped her up and kissed her softly.
"Ok at first I was happy and now I wanna be sick," groaned Hitch. LB giggled and pulled them both in for a group hug.As they all walked into the auditorium to greet the rest of Spectrum 8, LB couldn't help but smile. Now she could finally make the changes Spectrum need to work better. She walked into the middle of the room and her smiled dropped.
"Right you spineless, smug, insubordinate men," she hissed. "There's a new sheriff in town and from now on you answer directly to me. No more messing around. Not on my watch,"
Everyone in the room immediately stood up straighter and taller. She grinned at that.
"Now, you will all start by tracking down this new thief from Downtown. If any of you go against my command, there will be hell to pay. Do I make myself clear?"
The entire room muttered a very robotic 'yes'.
"Good. Now scoot people we have work to do," she yelled. All of the employees, excluding Hitch and Bradley scattered in different directions, scared for their lives. She really was her father's daughter."So, boss," said Hitch grinning. "What's your first plan of action as new head of Spectrum 8?"
LB looked thoughtful for a moment until a wicked grin trickled across her lips.
"I'm going to hire some people who can actually get the job done right," she smiled.
"Huh?" The boys said in unison.
"Women"
