POV: HANGE ZOË.
"Okay, stand still!"
As the six boys gathered around each other, they each posed in such a joyous manner I almost forgot to press the button on the screen. With a sound of a single snap, a moment in time was captured for eternity. I felt sort of emotional, really.
After making so much progress in the span of almost two weeks, I could proudly say that they had the basic abilities and knowledge required to further their strength in the Cadet Corps. They weren't perfect. In fact, they were far from it. But not everyone can say they can maneuver a solid half a kilometre through the air using two grappling hooks attached to your waist. With two metal boxes of swords nonetheless. Putting up with Levi's ruthless training, they deserved to smile. At least they could breeze through the training within the walls, nothing beats the experience of taking down a Titan firsthand.
Running up to the screen, they gathered around to see the photograph I had just taken. While I myself stared at the smiles on the screen. Both metaphorically and physically, a shining light of happiness and laughter was captured in time. "This is groundbreaking! I can't believe we have access to technology like this! It was like having a portrait painted, but you didn't even need to stand still for more than a few seconds! This is the first time I've ever seen a smile captured in time like this, explain to me again how this works Tetsurou?"
While the rest of the boys talked about the photograph, Tetsurou put a finger on his chin to contemplate. "Right... The lens, which takes all the bouncing rays of light in a room or on a subject. It uses glass to take all of those rays and redirect them to a single point, creating a sharp image. All of those light rays meet together on a sensor, which takes the information of the lights and colours of an image and displays it on the screen of the phone. Of course, that's just the simplified version, but it's the basic explanation."
I nodded vigorously, doing my best to take all the information in. Beside me, Moblit was taking down notes in his notebook, most likely just as intrigued as I was. "So... it's like a painting. But instead, the light already on the subject does all the painting for you? All you need is the lens to translate that information, and create a photograph, is that correct?" I asked.
"Precisely," He answered with a smile. I couldn't help but squeal with excitement. As Moblit approached Tetsurou with his own questions, I let the fun of the moment settle in. Moblit and Tetsrou's conversation continued on, and a confident smile painted Tetsurou's face as he continued explaining. I could tell he was enjoying teaching us about the technology from his home. Five days ago, I would have never expected he would warm up to us so fast.
[FIVE DAYS PRIOR.]
"So... you wanted me to be your personal lab rat, right?" He asked me as he slumped into the chair of the conference room. While Miche and Nanaba assessed the other five boy's academic level on the other side of the base, I finally had Tetsurou under my grasp. Just like Levi had asked the day before, I needed to begin to crack that snarky mask of his.
